Mark Richt to Florida State

Settle an argument for me here at work. Do you think that Mark Richt will leave Georgia to take over when Bobby Bowden retires?

Well since your theory is contingent on Bowden retiring when do you think that will be?

He should have retired 5 years ago but is still hanging around and considering his son is OC and long time assistant Mickey Andrews is DC it seems like FSU would have to clean house coaching wise for Richt to come in. I can't imagine the younger Bowden or Andrews would enjoy getting passed over for the head coaching job.

I could see FSU coming after him since he used to be OC for them. I don't think Richt will leave though. He has established himself at UGA and I think he likes it there and knows that he could be very successful there.

No, Geogia tied him up for a while and the buyout would break him....

i get sick even thinking about it....but athens is a great place to live and it kinda gets in your blood. it isn't just the football, it's the city, the river. it is hard to explain. but, i hope he retires there. i miss it just talking about it. it is small enough that if he retired there, he would be a walking legend for the rest of his life, like vince.

I just thought of something considering the train wreck that Coker and the U of M is atm and considering Richt is an alum. How about Richt comes back to the U riding in on his golden horse and revitalizes the program bringing it back to national prominence. Former player comes back to alma mater to great success it happened at Florida maybe it can happen at UM.

Anybody think it can happen?

Absolutely it could happen at Miami. I don't think Richt would go back to FSU -- and I am a FSU grad. Hey Ghostrider -- if a program wants him bad enough and Richt wants to go, the buyout virtually means nothing. It is a minor negotiation piece. That's why there is a buyout in the first place -- an out. Personally, why would Richt leave a place where the ground he walks upon is worshipped? You never know, Roy Williams did it for North Carolina -- his alma mater.

i think FSU will go after him, after all, the last true success they had was with Richt as the OC. they would pay a hefty price to bring back the FSU dominance. keep in mind the ACC is an easier conference than the SEC and he would have an easier shot at a NC

Richt was made to be a coach in Athens. He may have been called by the Good Lord to coach in Athens. There are so many redneck-prep, God-fearing fans who look up to him, I don't see how money could compare with being loved and respected by thousands...and if he retires there, IT WILL BE FOREVER. He will follow Vince into legend. Can you buy that? No way. It's a gift.

point of fact Richt likes the UGA and christian values of the Bulldog nation he also just signed a long term extension to his contract and has become the most beloved coach in athens since Vince Dooley though FSU was his first coaching job and "The U" his alma mater. Mark Aint going anywhere his kids love Athens and the fans in UGA are the most loyal anywhere in the south.

I dont hear that, but I have heard about him going to Miami, I believe he is a UM grad, so I think he might be heading down to Coral Gables.

Mark Richt stated on the Jim Rome radio show that he "never wants another head coaching job."

I will rest easier. If he chooses, you know, he could retire early, get a desk job and just enjoy his family and the warm fuzzies from fans in Athens. I would much rather him retire than ever coach against us.
