2007 Notre Dame Fighting Irish Thread

Pretty crappy start to the season. The offense was terrible and we wound up using three QB's in this game. Overall I thought the defense was decent enough. They got pinned back a few times thanks to turnovers and crappy punting by the offense and held GA Tech to field goals a few times.

Still, a very disappointing effort in Week One, if the O-Line is this terrible all year we'll be lucky to be .500. I had us at the 7-5 mark when I made my preseason predictions. But we won't beat Michigan State, Penn State or Navy if this is our effort, not to mention today's loss and games against Michigan, UCLA, Boston College and USC

I can see us stepping up. I want to see how the next game plays out. Right now we're in the middle of a QB crisis. Brady Quinn is gone, and we never needed a backup for him....This isn't florida where Leak had Tebow. Also, Samardjiza was a big loss in our WR corps. Our D is decent, they would play better if they were'nt on the field every two seconds. But, lets see how it plays out. I got them going .500 this year.

I think Charlie has been acting way too cute about the irish QB situation. Lou Holtz says it best "if you have more than one Qb you have no Qb" . If Clausen is going to be the Qb quit jerking around and make it so, have him change his middle name to Brady to continue the lineage......

'jcurry3rd' Clausen wasn't fully cleared until Sept 1 so he wasn't full on in practices. I think that is the only reason he wasn't the starter on Saturday. How could they build an offense around a player that wasn't full on? Not being cute or jerking anyone around, facts are facts.

The o-line was terrible. 9 sacks?!? Ouch. No QB should have to endure that. Granted, they won't face another D like this until October... they need to prepare better.

The defense looked a lot better compared to last year. The score could have been so much more worse, I don't even want to think about it. 'Speed Kills' you are right, they would have done even better if they weren't on the field so much.

I haven't been on the Clausen bandwagon so far but I might just jump on. He looked the best out there, even if it was 2nd string. He looked the most comfortable and hit his targets well.

I've hopped the bandwagon over to him. They need to get him starting and get the WRs in sync with him. The time is now to choose the QB situation.

Clausen won the starting QB position in THE SPRING. He had the surgery for the bone spur and was limited all summer in what he could do including August. He was cleared on SEPT 1, SATURDAY. Now he can go full on in practices and they can build an offense around him 100% for next Saturday's game.

I was on the Clausen bandwagon since spring but they shouldn't throw him to the wolves just yet.

With that O-line they would only be setting him up for failure and the last thing the Domers need is for their heir apparent to go into withdrawal because he contracted a bad case of acute battered wife syndrome.

I would think the same under different circumstances. Even though high school is a lot less glamorous than college, it's still very competitive and he was a shining star QB for 3 yrs. He didn't lose a game in 42 starts. That's a lot of pressure. He's proven to have some quarterback cockiness. And he seems calm under pressure in the pocket.
It's not like the NFL where you just don't put rookies in the starting QB spot (unless you're brain dead or super gutsy.)

You could be right... but you could be wrong. We'll see soon enough...
