Rank these All Time RBs

Here is my list of my all time running backs.
1.Jim Brown-The best ever period.
2.Walter Payton-The best I ever saw
3.O.J. Simpson -He was an amazing RB.
4.Gale Sayers-Career ended too soon.
5.Barry Sanders- He was so much fun to watch he would have broken Walter's record if he hadn't retired.

As exciting as Barry Sanders was, I'd still replace him with Emmitt Smith.

Jim Brown was the best I ever saw (and I''m so old I actually saw him play for Syracuse).

1. Jim Brown - Never saw him in person but from all the game footage, he was unstoppable.
2. Walter Brown - Hardest working, most complete back I've seen in person, run, pass, block, he could do it all.
3. Barry Sanders - Most elusive runner I've ever seen and did it all without an O-line.
4. Earl Campbell - The most dominant runner I ever saw, was unstoppable in his hey day and could bull you over or run by you.
5. Gale sayers - Never saw him but from footage he was a trailblazer and could've been the greatest ever if not for injuries.

You mean Payton... I agree... That he was the hardest working RB and should be #1. Emmitt has to round up the three, with Barry in fourth or 2nd depending on your train of thought... But why don't guys like Crutis Martin and Bettis get any love in these kind of things... I'd even place Emmitt above Barry because he "has" the numbers... If we were going for potential, he'd have been #1 in my eyes, but potential games are hard since there are so many players with potential in the league's history

Hey all..

Please explain why you guys would list Barry as #1? Not an attack, but, he really isn't, or he would be...

He was amazing to watch, had little help, but in the end, he simply, by the numbers, wasn't the best...

It's like saying that... (insert name here) was better then Michael Jordan as a basketball player... It just isn't so... In my opinion...

Also, please understand that I was a huge Barry fan and back in the day when they were both active, pulled for him over Emmitt any day of the week, but now that they're both out of the picture, the numbers speak for themselves...

Sweetness - Easy desicion, he is the greatest RB of all time.
Barry - Every Defensive player that played against him says he was the hardest guy in the league to tackle. If a pro says it I'll believe it.
Brown - I've only seen highlights, he's before my time, but the stats don't lie he was a beast
Emmitt - He holds the record, he was maybe the most durable back ever and his vision was highly underrated. He is punished for having a great offensive line.

there are several guys that could break the top 5
Csonka, Martin, Dickerson, Dorsett, Allen, Sayers

I probably lean to Dickerson as my 5th, but it's a toss up.

Marshall Faulk is one of the few players to reach at least 10,000 rushing yards and 5,000 receiving yards in his career. His seven two-point conversions are an NFL record. Marshall Faulk is the only player to have 100+ rushing touchdowns and 30+ receiving touchdowns. Faulk has the record for the most all-purpose yards in a season (1999) with 2,429 which broke the old mark set by Barry Sanders in 1997.

Jim Brown (He was awesome but didn't play against athletes that were at even close to the level he was at or athletes today.)

Gale Sayers

Emmit Smith (Barry Sanders was a better pure runner, but Emmitt was a better all around back. There was a reason Barry came out on the goal line.)

Probably Eric Dickerson

Ladanian Tomlinson my be on the list when he retires.

I love Ricky but I think he's right outside the top 10. He was a little brash and a loudmouth and his half-assing it in Philly when he didn't put in 100% effort tarnishes his legacy a bit.

I'll give you the infamous "non-stretch" on that. I'm pissed at him for that. But he was pretty much a beast out of the backfield in San Fran.
