Top 5 All Around WRs

Players you can build a franchise around because they have so many aspects to their game. Not the best per say, but guys with determination and skill.

1. Cris Carter (Caught everything thrown at him/in his general direction, and had great character)
2. Raghib "Rocket" Ismail (Can't say much about personality, but from watching game film on him continuously, he's got hands, speed, and awareness. 'Nuff said.
3. Jerry Rice (Greatest of all time, always down to earth, who wouldn't want him)
4. Randy Moss (If I could choose between his rookie year and now, I'd take the rookie, and it would be ranked around 1/2. But I can't, so the athletic freak Randy Moss sits at 4)
5. Art Monk/Lynn Swann (This was a toss up because both were incredible receivers in their time. Swann was acrobatic, and Monk was just down right good. So I'd take either here)

That is a big-time myth created by the media. He was an egotist and a problem in the lockerroom as well as on the sideline.

Much like TO, he would berate QBs if they didn't throw the ball to him enough. More so, he would make sure that all the other WRs knew he was in charge.

The infamous "I play when I want to play" comment from Moss was directed at Carter in response to the question "does Carter yelling at you motivate you to play better (paraphrased)".

The first thing Tice had to do when he took over as Head Coach was clean out the bad influences on the team that has split the locker room. #1 on that list was Cris Carter. He was one of the first players released. Years later, Chris Hovan reiterated the same thing. He said that the Vikings locker room was in shambles because of a few veteran players.

This is very true. Carter was never the "team player" the media made him out to be. His head was about as big as his game.

I lose this because I have nothing but what the media put forth to prove otherwise haha, Okay, so Cris would probably move down due to this.

Probably the most accurate one on here so far. Only one to include Brown and Reed.

1. Rice (The one, the only GOAT!)
2. Tim Brown
3. James Lofton
4. Michael Irvin (Though Rice holds the records, the Playmaker is in many respects the one who's had the greatest impact on how the position is played in todays NFL)
5. Cris Carter

Why Moss? He's not an all around receiver. He doesn't go across the middle, he's a horrible YAC reciever and he's not going to break many tackles. He's the epitome of a deep threat receiver only and not someone who has a plethora of different facets to their game.

Moss in his rookie year, even second year, was a tad more well rounded. But he's still an athletic freak who goes across the middle on occasion and makes things happen. (one handed catch this season anyone?)

1. Rice: No explination

In no particular order:
Bullet Bob Hayes: revolutionized the game and furthermore everyone went scrambling for sprinters found out none of them could catch like Hayes

Don Hutson: Never saw him play, but for someone in the leather helmet era playing both sides of the ball and at frigid Green Bay yet still managed to hold records into the 90's.

Art Monk: Probably the greatest possession receiver ever

Shannon Sharpe: Cheating a bit. Entered the league as an Oversized WR, revitalized the TE position. Caused mismatches like crazy. Drew a few penalties in his day too.

Though I do give props to the old boys, this is almost tooo old... He was playing glorified rugby back in the day... And if playing both ways is the measure of a great receiver, then Moss applies as he played way out in the nickle on a couple fo occasion this year, as has Rice in the past, as has Dieon Sanders (he was a DB, I know but also played WR in Dallas) and a rather large number of other guys in the league... But props for diggin for some old guys...

On a side note, no one has mentioned Keyshawn Johnson in this list... Which is kind of surprising, since in his glory days he was serious receiving threat and also on hell of a run blocker as well given his size and strength... May be considered a fore runner for some of the huge receivers we see in the league today (Larry Fitzgerald). Even once his speed had left him his blocking always remained a focal point for his game...

Which impresses me. He could set those records in an era when the forward pass was a novelty more than anything.

Just another feather in his cap. Would help him understand the psychology of his opponent

Brand me a Broncos homer, but I'd take Rod Smith ahead of him. Worked his way up from an undrafted free agent, one of the best run blockers at his position, clutch receiver (Lightning Rod). Better team guy and didn't have Keyshawn's problems getting into the end zone.

Agreed, he is a 1 trick pony that just happens to be the best in the league at his 1 trick. He is a lot closer to being in the bottom 5 of ALL AROUND WRs.

And I left someone off my list here it is updated

Rice
Harrison
WARD -no one has mentioned him and he is easily #3 in this catagory.
Irvin
Reed
