I'm considering getting a full-size ball, my hands are just big enough to hold it and throw it properly
does anybody have any experience with balls? I have three in mind, the NCAA Supreme which is in a blue box and costs $25. the problem with it is that i can barely grip it, its so slippery, its made out of this cheap rubber thing. even thoguh the ball says composite leather theres also a NCAA one, which also has supreme on the side but its in a gold box which says "Tackified Composite" and its $75. i can grip that pretty well and theres "The Duke" ball, leather, apparantly, and it fells really good in my hands, very easy to hold and grip $150. but i read on the back that sometimes the tack of the leather needs to be rejuvianted with a ball brush. so that got me worried that the leather will wear down and ill end up with a ball that is completely bald and ungrippable i did some research and the people on amazon who bought some said the duke was slippery, but i didn't see that at all. i thiought iw as very grippy. much better than the cheapo ball does anybody have any experince with these kinds of leather balls? and what do those white stripes do? the surface is very slippery on those white stripes |

A good ball that I have used in high school and now in college is the Wilson GST game ball.
Its leather with tanned-in tack and "small" grip pattern allows for better grip and makes this ball easier to throw and catch. The price is 69.95.

i bought the Wilson 1205, which is leather and used to be an official high school ball before they came out with composite leather. it is VERY VERY durable but loses grip when dirty/wet and needs to be kept in a dry room to keep in good condition. cost me $50 at academy

The best buy for the money is by far the Wilson 1005, it real leather and it's about half the price of "The Duke" ball. Right now, it's on sale at Amazon for like $65... Here's the link. Amazon.com: Wilson F1005R NCAA Game Ball Football: Sports & Outdoors
The Wilson F100 and F1005 are also nice balls. So is the Nike 3005. I prefer the feel of a leather ball to composite. Also, if you get a nice leather ball, it'll last longer in the long run and in some cases may become a collector's item, so it may become an investment, you won't get that from a rubber ball. As a side note, if you want it for doing drills and practices where there's a lot of throwing or long snapping, the Wilson 1005 P is a weighted ball. Play with that sucker for a while and it really makes a difference once you get your mits on a normal ball. We used one for practice in high school and our QB had a gun by the end of the season. What more, our WRs could catch anything. Ever swing a weighted bat, then swing a normal bat. Same effect only with a ball... That being said, don't get this ball if you're simply looking for something to chuck around with the boys and maybe girls as you can damage fingers if you're not ready for it and do damage to your shoulders if you're not ready to work with a ball of this weight... |
