2008 NFL Mock Draft

Here's what I can see unfolding in Rnd 1:

1.1) Miami Dolphins- Jake Long, OT, Michigan (with Beck & Brown they need some protections)

1.2) St. Louis Rams- Kenny Phillips, S, Miami (Phillips would greatly help a struggling Rams pass Defense, might try and trade down since they could use a CB more, and none are really Top 5 worthy)

1.3) New York Jets- Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU (His ability inside will be a great addition to their D-Line)

1.4) Atlanta Falcons- Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville (Petrino's college QB is the future of the Falcons)

1.5) New England Patriots (SF)- James Laurinaitis, MLB, Ohio State (Really they only need a MLB or a CB and since he'll be best available of those 2, he'll fit best with the Patriots aging LB corps)

1.6) Baltimore Ravens- DeSean Jackson, WR, California (Mason is getting up there and Clayton isn't the answer, this horribly struggling Offense needs a good WR)

1.7) Oakland Raiders- Sam Baker, OT, USC (They need some better protection with JaMarcus playing next year)

1.8) Cincinnati Bengals- Dan Connor, LB, Penn State (This Cinci LB corps is injury plagued and pathetic, Connor should fit nicely and contribute)

1.9) Philadelphia Eagles- Keith Rivers, LB, USC (PHI needs a LB badly and Rivers at this point will be the best available LB)

1.10) Chicago Bears- Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College (The Bears need an answer at QB and Griese is short term and Grossman is done in CHI)

1.11) Arizona Cardinals- Chris Long, DE, Virginia (The son of former DE Howie Long will help add to the growing Defense of the 'Cards)

1.12) Houston Texans- Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas (I will be surprised if he drops this far , but no one in the Top 11 needs an RB at all except CHI but they can't pass on a franchise QB)

1.13) Carolina Panthers- Reggie Smith, DB, Oklahoma (With the retirement of Mike Minter, they need to fill that void at safety)

1.14) New Orleans Saints- Sedrick Ellis, DT USC (The Saints could use help at DT, and with Ellis' value, he should go here)

1.15) Buffalo Bills- Quentin Groves, DE/OLB, Aubrun (Groves will help the Bills greatly due to his versatility and the depth he brings)

1.16) Denver Broncos- Gosder Cherilus, OT, Boston College (The Broncos could use the depth at Tackle and he could make an immediate impact)

1.17) Minnesota Vikings- Andre' Woodson, QB, Kentucky (If he falls this far, which could happen, this would be a no brainer)

1.18) Washington Redskins- Derrick Harvey, DE, Florida (Harvey could replace the aging Phillip Daniels and would team good with Andre Carter)

1.19) Tennessee Titans- Limas Sweed, WR, Texas (Young needs a talented WR to throw to and why not a Longhorn that Vince is familiar with?)

1.20) Kansas City Chiefs- Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss (Chiefs need an upgrade at Tackle and don't think they're ready to give up on Croyle so won't take a QB this early)

1.21) Detroit Lions- Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State (Lions really need CB help and at this spot, Jenkins is a perfect selection)

1.22) Dallas Cowboys (CLE)- Jonathan Stewart, RB, Oregon (If I was Dallas I would consider trading 1 of their 1st round picks, because they don't really need that much help, but if not they should go Stewart here who would compliment Barber very nicely)

1.23) Seattle Seahawks- Ryan Clady, OT, Boise State (If Clady declares, he'll be a steal at 23 and would easily upgrade Shane Locklear)

1.24) Jacksonville Jaguars- Early Doucett, WR, LSU (the Jags need a WR to upgrade all their WRs and hopefully for them 3 times a charm could, but with their trend of 1st round WRs (Williams & Jones), it don't look promising)

1.25) Pittsburgh Steelers- Roy Schuening, OG, Oregon State (Probably the only Guard worthy of the 1st round this year and with Faneca wanting out and could very well be in the offseason, Schuening would make sense here)

1.26) Green Bay Packers- Mike Jenkins, CB, South Florida (With Wynn, Jackson, & Morency, this backfield is too crowded with talent that hasn't had a chance to prove their skills and don't think they're ready to throw in the towel on them, so they'll go for Jenkins to give them CB depth and insurance for Woodson's age)

1.27) San Diego Chargers- Antoine Cason, CB, Arizona (Cason will add depth to SD's defensive backfield and could possibly become a starter in year one)

1.28) Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Tony Hills, OT, Texas (TB desperatley needs another Tackle and if they don't add one through Free Agency, Hills will be the best Tackle here at 28)

1.29) New York Giants- Barry Richardson, OT, Clemson (The Giants need depth at the O-Line and Richardson certainatly will do just that, and he could become a NFL Guard and wind up starting at Guard for the NYG)

1.30) San Francisco 49ers (v IND)- Malcolm Kelly, WR, Oklahoma (If Kelly comes out he'll be a viable option for the 49ers who need a WR badly if Alex Smith is ever to become a legit QB i nthis league)

1.31) Dallas Cowboys- Justin King, CB, Penn State (King will add depth to the hurting and lack of depth of the Dallas DBs, and with his skill he'll make an impact for this team)
1.32) New England Patriots- (forfeit)

I like this. Seems pretty accurate as far as prospects going where they are projected thus far, and the picks seem good. I like it. Good job, kudos.

The Browns going 8-8 won't land them at 22nd... I'll do a sig bet that they don't have a pick higher then 15th... ride the hype wave all you want, but it's not going to happen. That being said, I love Stewart and would welcome him with open arms...

Love the position, hate the player - he's not physical and plays way to far off the line.

If you can tell me 4 of the teams were gonna face that they'll lose to then maybe i'll agree 8-8 but for now i'm goin 11-5, 10-6 which should put them around 22

Have you seen the Browns play? Since they get no national broadcasts, I'm going to guess the answer is no.

What did the Vikes get to trade all the way down from a Top-5 pick to 17th?

Unless Childress is fired (PLEASE!!!), they will ignore the QB position. He has staked his reputation on the trainwreck that is Jackson.

If the Vikes stay in the Top-5/10 (which is definately where their season is heading, 2-6 wins), I see them emphasizing:
1) WR
2) OL
3) DE

If Wilf proves he has a brain and fires Childress, then QB shoots to the top of that list.

Wouldn't be opposed to getting a RB in the first round. Good WR's (another area Dallas needs to address as their core is aging) can be found later on. Do agree that the secondary needs to be addressed for sure though.

ya, but I made this draft a long time ago, so things would be different

In terms of specifics and order, yes. But in general, addressing those spots would make as much sense for Dallas then as it does now. Matter of depth and addressing the future rather than filling a gaping hole right now.

I like the list. But do you really think the Falcons will still take Brohm? Even though Petrino has moved on?

I have a feeling Arthur Blank doesn't want to touch ANYTHING even remotely connected to Bobby Petrino. Just a feeling that Brohm will slip and Falcons will take either Ryan or the Kentucky QB.
