Rules changes good or bad?

Hey there gang, just thinking about the changes that have been made the past few years, and it makes me wonder if they are making the sport better, or are they making it worse?

Take for example, the rules meant to protect the Quarterback from injury. He is still a "Football Player", and should not be pampered more then any other player. I feel that since they are playing a tough sport, they should be as tough as any of the other players on their team. Shoot, I don't see any rules protecting RB's from getting injuries while doing their job, and they are hit ever time they carry the ball.....

Hm, I'm not sure. What other rules have changed besides the QB protection ones? I'm not even too familiar with those rules...would someone mind explaining them? I imagine they might help during blitzes.

One of the biggest changes this season on hits to the QB, is about hitting them at or below the knee, while in the pocket. I'm sorry, but when you have a defesive player, who's job is to get to the Quarterback, they are limiting them in doing that job. And then we must consider this, those same defensive players are being blocked by the offensive line, and sometimes they are blocked right into the Quarterback's legs.

From what I have read, this is going to be a "Judgement" call by the refs, on whether or not it violates the new rule. Looks like there is going to be a little more yellow in the field this year.......

QB

i feel the same way...if you're gonna play ball, play ball...don't make one player different in that aspect..

Thanks for the explanation. Looks like I won't like the new rule, mostly because it seems like almost all of them will be at the ref's discretion (you know how hits go...I'm sure many will be called for review with this new rule).

Glad I could help, and yes it's going to be a ruled that most of us will not like..... When you leave it up to the "Discretion" of the refs, it all depends on how well they are seeing that day....

I agree. Same way goaltenders in hockey should be fair game if they're playing the puck behind their net. Are these guys athletes or prima donnas?

The only rule change that really frusterates me is the "No Fun League" limited celebrations rule. While I think most of them ar dumb anyway, they still at least add a little personality and originality to the game.

Oh this is going to make for a great season. I can see all the po'ed fans and coaches already. Up to the referee's discretion. Sometimes i cannot help but wonder about some of their call already without this new one added in to the mix.

Well...when some rules changed in last season of Hockey, it worked pretty well, hopefully it'll do the same in Football.

I couldn't believe the 15 yard penalty Seau got for "taunting" in a preseason game. Are you kidding me? You can't yell at guys? That's so freaking weak. And 15 yards? I hope that's not enforced so much in the regular season.

I have problems with the no taunting rules too - its like the want to protect the feelings of the teams that aren't winning - well, its a sport, isn't it? shouldn't you be able to gloat if you win? i mean not punch a guy in the face or anything, but you know.

I am not a big fan on all the sissy QB rules. They should be able to be hit. I think back to the Cowboys-Redskins game, I think, when Roy Williams nailed the QB. It was a nice solid hit straight up. Just let them knock em around.

I don't know about leaving it all up to the discretion of the ref. Some are fair, yes, but there's not really anything you can do to protect against unfair bias.
