Leftwich to Baltimore?

Baltimore Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome told the Baltimore Sun that the team has had “a couple of small conversations” with QB Byron Leftwich, the Sun has reported.

With the regular season less than one week away, the chances of Leftwich landing a starting quarterback spot are slim to none. Quarterbacks have spent training camp and four preseason games absorbing team playbooks and becoming comfortable with the offense. For Leftwich to be any higher than a second- or third-string QB, it will take a very desperate team…and the Falcons have already denied interest.

Baltimore would be a smart choice. McNair is injury prone and is in decline, certainly Leftwich would have a chance to be a starter there sooner rather than later

This could be a good move for Baltimore. McNair has little left in the tank and Leftwich was given a raw deal, he's still capable of being a starting caliber quarterback. He could start by the half way mark pending on how well McNair plays.

Remember, Baltimore was trying to trade up to land Leftwich in the draft. That was the year both Jacksonville and Baltimore were trying to trade with the Vikings. Jacksonville snookered the Vikes by saying they agreed to terms, but never calling the trade into the league. Vikes sat dumbfounded as the clock expired and Jacksonville got their man without having to trade.

Since they lost out on Leftwich, Baltimore traded back into the 1st round to land Boller.

To be fair, since Jacksonville beat them to Leftwich, they had to settle on Suggs instead.

Given the choice of the three, Suggs wins.

Kinda funny how things work out for the better.

Vikes had the same thing happen. They were drooling over Sims at the draft and were all excited when the clock ran out on the Cowboys. They sauntered up to make their pick, only to be told that the Chiefs confirmed the trade before they could get up to the podium. Vikes had to settle on McKinnie and drafted Kevin Williams the following year. Had they been a step or two quicker, the Vikes would have had Gross and Sims instead of McKinnie and Williams.

You don't need Leftwich, b/c you have Troy Smith. JK, you might as well turn Troy Smith into a WR, and pick up Leftwich, that is your best shot.
