Jerry Rice's retirement contract: 1,985,806.49

Quote:
There wasn’t a dollar sign in front of them, however. They all are numbers associated with Rice’s legendary career with the 49ers - the season he joined the team (1985), the uniform number he wore on his back (80), the year he retired as a 49er (’06) and … well, 49ers fans can figure out what the two numbers to the right of the decimal point stand for.

i think that's too cool.

Best ever. I've got an autographed framed picture of him after Super Bowl XXIX. College graduation present. Best one I got.

Class act all around. One of the best to play the position in my opinion.

This should have been done after Denver cut him. He will always be remembered as a 49er where he became the best WR to ever play the game. Hopefully the network broadcasting the Seattle game will show the retirement ceremony.

I read that story earlier today, that was an interesting and nice move...I wish that my retirement contract will be that lucrative.

Awesome stuff here.

I wish more organizations would do stuff like this for their players.

Best football player of my lifetime so far and maybe the best ever. It's hard to think he'll be touched at the WR position.

Jerry Rice Collectors DVD?

NFL Films should put together a DVD with all 208 TDs by Rice. It's possible one already exists.

I used to watch Jerry Rice play every week, when the SF games were the only thing to watch, since I lived near the bay. He was one of the greatest to play the game, and didn't let it go to his head. He played the game, for the "LOVE" of the game, and not just for the money. There are a few "Other" WR out there, that could still learn a thing or two from him........

There are 2 active players who could pass Rice's numbers.

I would have rather had the two million dollars myself.
