Atlanta Falcons The Vick Thread: All Vick Stuff Here - Vick Suspended Indefinitely by NFL

Just reported on Sportsnet Connected here in Canada. According to several NFL sources, Commissioner Goodell will suspend Vick either this week or next for the entire 2007 Season.

That's good for the Falcons.

Agreed. I really think that it was inevitable, so it's good this distraction is gone ASAP for Atlanta. That being said, I think this team is going to be looking at a high pick this season, but then again, maybe they respond to all this by playing really well together as a team and pulling off a surprise.

ESPN says Goodell is "quick to dismiss" this rumor, and that nothing is final yet

SI is now reporting the same story about the suspension. Goodell is probably just holding this under his hat until he makes the annoucement.

This is good overall for the franchise. Now the Falcons and Bobby Petrino can see there is life outside of Vick. the get a high pick this year, draft a young QB for the future and they are set. Joey Harrington looks like he's doing well to hold in there for now.

I believe this is the case as well. I don't see Vick missing anything less than half the season regardless - but how do you all feel about a full season of suspensions? For someone still "not guilty" AFAIC, a full season is a harsh suspension. I hate what he allegedly committed, obviously, but at this moment, it's still alleged, is it not?

True, but with the state of the league and it's off field antics as of late, I doubt they want to take any chances at all. I find it rediculous to do anything until they actually prove him guilty/innocent. But, they have a zero tolerance now.

I feel like the whole "zero tolerance" approach should be a gage at just how bad the American Justice system currently stands. By taking action before a verdict is made, they are expressing a lack of faith in the system itself. While I understand an employer may implement rules and things even as simple as a dress code, but they are basically saying that the Justice system DOESN'T work! This is a big deal to me when you consider past incidents like Lenard Little and OJ Simpson. IMO, when an adult breaks the law they should be held responsible by the authorities, now in the Pacman Jones era, they are held responsible by the NFL first and maybe the state if the prosecutor can get past the defense attorney? So now you have celebrity treatment going from one extreme to the next. Speaking of which, I believe the original investigation was a federal drug investigation, so why aren't there any drug chargers drawn up? I'd bet they couldn't get enough evidence and/or stumbled onto Vick's name and jumped all over this case because it would make the front page. Regardless of how the investigation got started, I read the 18 or so pages of the indictment and I'm almost positive a Cochran level Defense group will be able to get Vick off of that Conspiracy charge.

I heard that last night during the Chargers game....maybe Atlanta can throw the ball now. Harrington is better anyway.

It has nothing to do with what he is charged with. The commish is waiting for the report from his investigator later this week or early next week. Vick told the commish that no dog fighting took place on his property. If his investigator finds that it did, he will ban Vick for a year for lying to him.

He wants to make the decision before the regular season starts. Again, he isn't looking at the charges. Those will be dealt with in court.

Lying to the commissioner is covered in the player conduct rules.

Harrington looks more comfortable behind the ATL offensive line. I hear people talk about the Falcons like they are already penciled in for the #1 Draft pick but I think they will be 6-10 or maybe even repeat 7-9.

I have them with more than 6 wins but may tweak it after preseason. I think they are better without vick.
