I was surprised with the length of the deal as well. I guess it may be par for the course in the NFL, but it does seem quite high.

Seems high to me for an injury-prone, good-but-not-great QB. Still, QB is far-and-away the most coveted position on the field, so they always command a premium.
What I am curious on is how the contract breaks down. Yes, there is 27 mil in guarenteed money, but is that signing or roster bonuses? With Bulger's injury issues, I would think it is Roster so the team can cut him at a later date without major implications.

Bulger's a good player...but that's a hell of a lot of money, especially the $27 million in guarantees to a guy with a shaky health history.
