How many NFC & AFC Teams will be over .500 this year?

This will be a fun stat to follow. I am not knocking the NFC teams, as the AFC used to be the down league. I just like to follow patterns and perceptions in sports.
Each league has 16 Teams. Here's the past trends:
2006: AFC 7, NFC 5
2005: AFC 9, NFC 8
2004: AFC 9, NFC 4
2003: AFC 7, NFC 7 tie
2002: AFC 9, NFC 7
2001: AFC 7, NFC 6
2000: AFC 8, NFC 8 tie
1999: AFC 7, NFC 4
1998: AFC 6, NFC 6 tie
1997: AFC 7, NFC 7 tie
1996: AFC 7, NFC 7 tie
1995: NFC 7, AFC 6

We all assume that the AFC is better, but I think the power teams will separate themselves, leaving it a possibility for AFC and NFC teams to get in the playoffs at 8-8. I predict all but maybe one 9-7 teams will make the playoffs.
AFC - 6, NFC - 6

As long as the AFC is superior to the NFC, you are going to see this type of result. I do not think the NFC can play the AFC on even terms this year. I think that every AFC Division has at least 2 teams over 500, so I will give the AFC a minimum of 8 teams. There could be 3 in the AFC West and only 1 in the North or South, but it should balance out. In the NFC, I see the North with only 1 team over .500. That gives the NFC a maximum of 7 teams.

Detroit Lions my predictions

yea i think the afc will be dominate for quite some time untill there is a real power house in the nfc which there really isnt a couple good defenses and a couple offenses but i think it will play out 8-6 afc favor.

The reason I said AFC-6 and NFC-6 is for this reason:
The separation in the AFC is widening. There is not a lot of room for 9-7 teams in the AFC. I think that NE, IND, SD, and Balt win atleast 45 games between them. That's averaging 11+ wins. That means 2 out of the next five teams will probably win 9+ (PIT, DEN, CIN, JAC, or out on a wing NYJ). If things fall right, I guess they all could be 9-7. Either PIT or cincy probaly win 9 games, so that eliminates one. I doubt the Jets, which eliminates 2. Then I think either the Jags or Den will win 9+.
The NFC, on the other hand will have many 9-7 or 10-6 teams. Who in all reality will win more, possibly 2 teams at the most. So we have CHI, PHI, and NO as givens. DAL is a high probability. Then we need atleast 2 more to win 9 from this group (CAR, SEA, ATL, STL, SF, and doubfuls NYG, MIN, GB, and WAS).
I can actually see the NFC having a chance to have more teams over .500.
But there is no doubt, the AFC is the better conference.

BIGDADDY - I will bet a ton on the AFC under 8 teams with winning records if I ever find that bet. 8 minimum - no way.

Baltimore, Indy, New England and San Diego for sure. Denver and the Jet's highly probable. Between Jacksonville, Cincinnati, Kansas City, and Pitt, you may be able to find 2 more. I say 8, but I would not wager on it. Remember, the AFC is substantially better than the NFC.
