Winners
1. Dallas: Got a great DE/LB, Spencer will be an excellent combo with Ware. Got two decent OT who, with some work, can turn into solid players. Got a pretty good K to boost kickoffs, wish we would have gotten Crosby tho. Stanback is gonna be a crazy WR if we can transition him into it. The dude is huge and looks like he could turn into a Matt Jones kind of WR. O and btw, how about that potential top 10 draft pick next season. Grade: A - A+

2. Cleveland: Got the best lineman in the draft along with, IMO, the best NFL QB in the draft. I agree the price may have been a little steep, but can you put a price on a franchise QB? Grade: B+ - A

3. Colts - Gonzalez will be an immediate contributer. Ugoh was a projected 1st rounder and they got him at a good spot. And the Hughes pick in the 3rd round was a steal. Their draft picks will make an immediate impact. Great draft for the Colts. Grade: B+ - A

4. Lions - Only because they got Calvin Johnson.

Losers
1. Dolphins - Took Ginn way too early when they could have gotten Quinn. Beck is a decent QB but will not contribute immediately. I don't know a Dolphin fan not cursing Cam Cameron's name. Grade: F

2. Redskins - They had only 5 picks int he draft and they pick up a safety? Landry is good but to put him alongside Taylor will lead to overplay on the long bombs b/c each guy will be looking for the hard hit and not the sure play.
Grade: D-

3. Eagles - They got really jipped by the Boys and the use the 2nd rounder to pick up Kolb??? Waste of resources. Grade: F

I'm a Lions fan so I have the right to say this:

Don't praise Detroit for doing what any moron in their spot would have done. Calvin Johnson was a no brainer move.

If they were truly worthy of a high draft grade, they would have converted the No. 2 overall pick into a lower first rounder, two 2nd rounders and a fourth.

Explain to me why everyone keeps saying they took Ginn too early? Quinn was available but they had Beck rated higer than Quinn and knew Beck would be available in the next round, Ginn wouldn't have been. They took the player they felt they needed most. Ginn gives this team the speed at receiver they haven't had. Oh, and Steve Smith is a great receiver/returner. Who wouldn't want that guy on their team?

Cameron and Mueller know quarterbacks, they felt Beck was the better choice. If you listened during the draft to everyone talking about Quinn, many felt he is overrated as well. I'll trust a guy who's made a living at recognizing good players and working with them to make them great.

From the local paper:
Quote:
Cameron burped San Diego's Drew Brees and Philip Rivers to NFL stardom. Terry Shea, the new quarterback coach, worked with Trent Green in Kansas City. General Manager Randy Mueller had the likes of Marc Bulger, Aaron Brooks, Jake Delhomme and Jeff Blake on his New Orleans roster.
Brooks did a lot better in New Orleans. I think these guys know quarterbacks!

Those guys don't know squat, like Mel Kiper for example, I really don't know why he's a professional, he's terrible. No one can pick who's gonna be good and whos gonna be a bust, especially at the QB postion.

True that. Millen pulled a Millen.

The Browns are the biggest losers of this draft - they mortgage their future for a QB who wasn't much better then the guy they could of had in the 2nd and totally screwed themselves out of any shot at getting a Top Tier RB next year that they'll so desperately need.

Miami was a close 2nd and Green Bay would be a Top 3 loser taking Harrel at 16 and giving Favre nothing to work with.

The Biggest Winners in my opinion were Arizona (got 2 Top 5 picks without mortgaging their future) as well as San Francisco and Atlanta

you my friend did not watch many saints games. he had that one good year in 2001 and had a handful of good games after that but after that he cost us many games he was terribly inconsistant and tried to be like brett favre and squeeze balls in where they shouldn't have gone

and steve breaston got picked in the 4th round not only was he a solid return man but he could be a number 2 receiver unlike ginn this was a really bad pick

I shouldn't have said he did a lot better in N.O., but he did better, even if it was just one year. i was never a fan of Brooks.

There has been talk the Texans liked Ginn in the next pick if Miami hasn't taken him, Miami took the guy they wanted and got the QB they wanted, it's that simple. They felt Ginn was the best guy available according to their needs.

unless culpepper performs a miracle then beck should start from day one so that was a really good pick

I still think they'll get Green. His agent came out today and said he won't play for the Chiefs, meaning he could get cut and the Phins sign him without giving up anything.

It's never that simple. In 2003, the Chiefs extended Trent 7 years which included an 11.5MM signing bonus.

It's true that they can't force Green to play. But they can pursue him for 3/7ths of high signing bonus if he holds out. That's what? $4,933,500?

The Chiefs aren't entirely without leverage here. Jake Plummer has the same problem with his little retirment stint. You can expect him to show up for training camp in Tampa for approximately the same reason.

More on the Phins and what was going on...Dolphins secretive draft plan works to perfection: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

Some improtant quotes:

Quote:
"I know for a fact two teams were ready to take [Ginn] if we passed," Mueller said. (The NFL Network has reported Houston wanted Ginn with the 10th pick.)
Quote:
Unstated here was that none of the available quarterbacks graded out as elite level. Quinn had been hyped that way. The decisions said otherwise. Detroit, Cleveland, maybe Tampa Bay all need a young quarterback and passed on Quinn before the Dolphins did. Carolina and Jacksonville, also needing a quarterback, passed before Cleveland traded and took Quinn.
Miami knew exactly what they were doing!

I don't know if Calvin Johnson was a sure thing for the Lions. Until they actually put him on the field there is always a chance for Matt Millen to be the same old dumbass Matt Millen. With him as GM ya never know what dumb move he will make. I don't even know why he is still GM for the Lions, he should have been gone at least a season or two ago.
