49er FA News
FOXSports.com has learned that Bruce is heading to San Francisco for a free-agent meeting with the 49ers, which recently hired Mike Martz as their offensive coordinator. St Louis Post Dispatch reports that Martz contaced Bruce Thursday night and if/when Bruce gets on a plane it will be to sign a deal not just to visit. The 49ers have started serious talks with recently released Rams receiver Isaac Bruce. Mike Martz, understandably, really wants him.
The 49ers did not waste anytime signing players after the start of free agency. Matt Maiocco and ESPN are both reporting that the 49ers have signed quarterback JT O’Sullivan (Lions), DeShaun Foster (Panthers), Dontarrious Thomas (Vikings), and Allen Rossum (Steelers). Alan Faneca’s name has popped up according to John Clayton. This is the first mention of Faneca linked to the 49ers, it could be one reason why they let Justin Smiley walk so easily. This time of year rumors are flying rampant and this particular site, TheRumorGuy.com has a single quick news line that says. The 49ers have signed QB Trent Green to a one year deal. Well I’m happy to say after a few phone calls that the Rumor Guy is full of crap. Thank God for that. Free agency is set to begin in a little over 14 hours, and one name that has been linked to the 49ers is Bears free agent Bernard Berrian. Reports out of Chicago is that Berrian is looking for a deal that nets $24.5 million over the first three years, and bonuses worth $12 million. Justin Smith has not arrived at 49ers complex yet. Word is that the 49ers do not want him leaving without a contract. Apparently they are set to go $8 million annually. A Minnesota radio station is reporting the Vikings signed Justin Smith. The 49ers have submitted a proposal to free agent Shaun Hill. Hill’s agent, Bob Lattinville, received the offer last night (Wednesday.) He said he was going to review it today and plans to discuss it with Hill, Friday night. The money offered to Hill is not confirmed but it is rumored to be a 3-year deal worth $12-$15 million according to RotoWorld.com. Alan Faneca would be a great pick up.

Faneca is now looking else where... Nice pick up with Smith though... Not so nice with Bruce... a 35 year old receiver on a team who's next best receiver is IMO Vernon Davis isn't going to help much... That being said, I wish him the best...

John Clayton is reporting that the 49ers have contacted Alan Faneca. FOXSports.com has learned that Faneca is receiving strong interest from San Francisco, St. Louis and the New York Jets. Faneca doesn’t plan on making any free-agent visits while mulling impending contract offers but hopes to make a decision between those squads within the next 48 hours. Faneca has said he will not make plans to visit any team until Sunday.

The short answer: Cause they're the 9ers and they, as of late, have run their org. much like the TO Leafs, gettinga few big names, but then doing little to surround those big names with supporting casts... 2 cents.

Salary caps tend to put a damper on that.

We are talking the 49ers here. You know, the team that was suppose to challenge Seattle last season. This team does not need a bunch of has beens signing up with them. They need new talent. Martz has been a failure for several years now, both as a head coach and an assistant. He did nothing at Detroit who has a much better WR corp than the '9ers do.

Free agent Takeo Spikes will visit with the 49ers on Thursday, according to NFL Network's Adam Schefter. Spikes would likely move inside in San Francisco's 3-4 scheme and compete with Dontarrious Thomas, Jeff Ulbrich, and Brandon Moore.
