Heads up - Shaun Alexander

The foot may still be cracked. Something to keep an eye on:

Seahawks | Alexander's foot may not be healed

Gregg Bell, of the Associated Press, reports Seattle Seahawks RB Shaun Alexander (foot) said that he may still have a cracked left foot. Alexander does not know for sure because he wants to wait until after the veteran minicamp to get another X-ray to see if his foot is healed or is still broken.

His days are numbered, running backs take too much of a beating now days to last as long as he has. Just maybe the 2 back system is more beneficial to a team in the long run.

Shaun has 2 things going for him:

1. He's always been the kind of runner that avoids tackles rather than trying to smash through them. That's why I've never particularly admired the guy. But he's saved his body a ton of punishment over the years.

2. Walt Jones

Going against him is his age (turns 30 in August) and possible motivation as the Hawks just gave him a big money extension last offseason. That was a stupid, stupid move IMO but what are you going to do? The guy has been steady as a rock over the last 5 seasons (minus 2006) and just came off a year where he won the rushing title and set the single-season TD record.

To me, Alexander has 2 seasons left with any reasonable fantasy value, assuming the foot is NOT broken. For 2007, I see him as a mid or late 1st round choice and a risky choice for your RB1. In 2008, he's no better than a solid RB2 regardless of how well he does this season.

My 2 cents.

He is and will be a good RB for any team because he does go around the defenders and he does it well he will be good starter until about 33 then after that for the next 2-3 years a solid 2nd. The skill of guys like him are going to start being overshadowed by these new and upcoming rooks.
