The 49ers have had one of the strongest offseasons that i can ever remember. They have improved on just about every level and every position through both free agency and the draft.
Key New Additions: Nate Clements (CB) - The best FA CB out there this offseason, is a solid cover and has an eye for the ball. Will greatly improve their secondary Michael Lewis (S) - I still can't believe that the Eagles wouldn't resign this guy. He is a marquee secondary player of the Eagles and they let him go. He's still a young guy and will really lock down that 49er secondary. Ashley Lelie (WR) - Personally I think this guy is inconsistent, but he is still a great threat and has solid hands, discounting his last year in ATL. So far he has only put up one solid season in DEN so hopefully he can put a couple good seasons for the 49ers. Darrell Jackson (WR) - A weak WR corps has been greatly improved with the trade for DJack and the signing of Lelie. A 4th rounder for DJack was an excellent move. This guy is a solid underrated WR that can burn many teams when overlooked. Patrick Willis (LB) - A great pick in the first round. This guy is gonna be a starter for sure and will provide an immediate impact. He will improve a LB corps lacking some pop. Joe Staley (OT) - Drafting this guy in the second round was IMO a steal. This guy is solid and I wish the Boys could have gotten him. He will go well along with Larry Allen on that O line, though Allen is aging he is still a solid player. Great upgrade on the O line to protect Smith and provide some time to get the ball to Davis, Lelie, and DJack. Will provide the a boost to greatly improve the 49er offense. Jason Hill (WR) - This guy will possibly grow into a number 1,2 option for the 49ers. He is a very seldom talked about WR in this talented WR draft, and is very very underrated. He can be an immediate number 3 and can possibly sneak in at number 2 by the start of the season. Out of the 9 picks in the 2007 draft the 49ers took 6 defensive players and only 3 offensive players. They have realized that their offense is now set thanks to free agency and rookies improving, and now concentrate on the other part to contend for a Super Bowl. They will be a force to be reckoned with within the next few seasons and for seasons to come. I can easily see them taking the division away from the defending Seahawks.

Teams go from first-to-worst and worst-to-first all the time.
But you know what else happens all the time? Draft picks flop and big name FA's become non-issues (reference Washington). I'll believe they are onto something if the can beat Pittsburg (in PIT) in Week 3...or at least make it a damn good game...after mandatory wins against AZ and STL in Weeks 1 and 2. I'm also fine with SF stinking for another decade. 5 Super Bowls is enough. |

I'm very pleased with what the 9ERS have done so far and I hope it all works out for them. Four years of misery have been long enough, time to get back to the playoffs.

I think they're good enough, Seattle didn't do much in the draft nor the offseason so while San Fran is getting stronger, Seattle is getting weaker. San Fran has GREAT depth in their lineup now. They're taking that division this year.

If the 49ers don't take the division they can certainly compete for a Wild Card spot.

The 49ers have to produce, something they have not done recently. There are a lot of "ifs" and "maybes" on this team, but Arizona, St. Louis, and Seattle have the same. Anybody in this division can win it, but no team is good enough to take a week off and expect to win that particular game.

This division has no huge favorite. It looks to be a two horse race between the 49ers and the Seahawks, with the Rams not too far behind, and the Cards trailing far far behind. I would love to see the 49ers win the division, but it all depends on how Alexander bounces back.

I think this division may be the most equal division in the NFL. All these teams can win the division but i think it will come down to who has the most composure in big games and i think that may be the Seahawks. But the 49ers can very easily steal one from Seattle like they did last year when they murdered them in San Fran. I want to see the niners take one but i think they will be more in the wild card chase because of the youth and inexperience

I agree. This conference is very close. 9-7 may be enough to win it. No one is a lock in here. They play the AFC North, which is good, and the NFC South, which is not. People tend to completly underestimate the strength of schedule. This should be one of the more entertaining divisions in the NFL this season.
