NFC South MNF Showdown September 25, 2006
NO hosting ATL with both teams 2-0 SU + ATS to open season. Emotional home game for NO (national t.v.) inaugurating rebuilt SuperDome post-Katrina. Last year in NO's 'home-game' of this series (displaced by the hurricane), ATL won by 3 with a 5.5 PS. Vick should be able to keep the
running game going (NO soft linebacker corps - something like 5th last in run defense last year) but may have trouble passing (NO league 3rd best, I believe, in pass defense last season - good secondary, strong safeties). ATL focused on building to beat divisional rivals CAR and TB and managed just that in games 1 and 2 of the season. NO comes home heroically after 2 road victories. ATL has satisfyingly accomplished beating CAR and TB and may be prone to let down here. With Brees, Deuce and Bush there's an air of revitalization and this NO team can compete. I have a feeling it could come down to a field goal, this game with either team coming out on top. It would be poetically nice for NO to win given all the city's been through but I wouldn't be surprised if ATL pulls out something like a 3 point win. What I can't see is an Atlanta blowout when the game is so emotionally important to NO. That's why I like the 3.5 pt home dog and maybe shopping finds a four (at the time of this writing on Wednesday 20th) . . . Liking the Falcons and Mike Vick this is not a game that they should be excited to play in. The emotion of the Dome's reopening and the return of the Saints gonna make it tough to win. Its almost a no win situation the entire country is going to be pulling for the Saints and Rooting for Reggie.
That said the ground game of atlanta could gains miles instead of yards with a weak Saints run D. not sure when the last time a team had 3 hundred yard rushers ina game but Vick Dunn and Norwood just might.

I don't care how bad Carolina's been struggling, S-Squared appears healthy now and it is always a struggle to beat that squad. I think +7 might be a bit much...I would have guessed +4.5 or even +6.5...just shows that 3-0 hasn't made believers out of anyone just yet..and that's fine.

I was pleased for the most part with the way the Saints played yesterday coming off the emotional win last Monday and facing their real first tough road game of the season. Dropping a game by 3 on the road against a very talented team, coming off an adrenaline fused win last Monday and against a team that desperately needed the victory, I thought the Saints showed that although their schedule is a bit rough, they have a shot to put together a +.500 season this year. I also have a man-crush on Sean Payton. That is all.

Payton and Brees is a tremendously exciting coach/qb pairing. I've always
thought of Brees as a fine qb that hadn't been landing with the right team. I think he's very much in complexion with NO and HC Sean Payton. Payton's smart and so is Brees ~ + the running duo, it's looking good . . . |
