Should the Falcons move up and take CJ?
I'm tired of going to the NFC North forum to talk about ATL moving up to take Calvin Johnson, so I am starting a new thread about it in the correct forum. To get Calvin Johnson I think you will need to be at least in the top four picks to get him. According to the NFL Draft Value Chart:
Pick 1: 3000 Pick 2: 2600 Pick 3: 2200 Pick 4: 1800 ATL has the following picks, Pick #(Value): Pick 8 (1400) Pick 39 (510) Pick 44 (460) Pick 75 (215) Pick 109 (76) Pick 121 (52) Pick 133 (39.5) Pick 149 (31.8) Pick 185 (17.4) Pick 244 (<2) ATL going all the way up to the number one pick is way too much for them too even consider. For the ATL to move up to the 4th pick in the draft the ATL would have to give up Pick #8(1st rounder) and Pick #44(2nd rounder). This would leave them with Picks #4,39,75,109,121,133,149,185,244; A pretty good draft order if they can pull this off, and this is the best scenario they can pull of IF Oakland and the Lions don't pull a Texans. For the ATL to move up to the 3rd pick in the draft the ATL would have to give up Pick #8(1st rnd), Pick #39(2nd rnd), Pick 75(3rd rnd), and Pick #109(4th rnd). This would leave them with Picks #3,44,121,133,149,185,244. This is a pretty decent trade although they will only have 2 first day picks; but they could be lucky enough to grab a Colston in the second day. For the ATL to move up to the 2nd pick in the draft he ATL would have to give up Pick #8(1st rnd), Pick #39(2nd rnd), Pick #44(2nd rnd), Pick #75(3rd rnd), Pick #133(4th rnd). This would leave them with Picks #2,109,121,149,185,244. This looks like it would be the worst trade they could make because it would cost them so many picks and leave them little to use for the draft, but then again they had so many picks to begin with. As I said above the best case scenario would be to trade up to #4 if the Oakland and the Detroit don't take Calvin Johnson, but if they are afraid the Bucs don't wanna make the move then they can always trade with Cleveland which might actually go for the trade. It all depends on how the Lions and the Raiders move, but it is very possible for the ATL to move up and take CJ mainly b/c they have so many picks this draft. If they can do it, it could be one of the best moves this draft and prove to help the ATL take the division for years to come.

considering Tampa drafts in front of them and wants him equally as bad, Atl would have to way over pay. I think Tampa will end up with him, they will trade up to #2 overall and land him

oakland has too many issues to worry about receiver so they wont draft him
detroit has two receivers already and they need a lineman cleveland wont get him. they need a compliment to Jamal Lewis or linemen TB will get him they need another guy to groom because Joey Galloway is old and Michael Clayton isn't producing like he did his rookie year. now its very possible cleveland could get CJ but its unlikely there is no way ATL will be able to draft him unless they pay way more than he's worth

Should they try to move up to get him? Yes
Should they mortgage their entire draft to do it? NO I think based on Tampa's draft posistion and desire to draft Calvin, it would very likely cost Atl WAY more than they should pay. |

Atlanta needs both a Safety and a Wide Receiver but the question is which do they need more? If they are content with Joe Horn and the rests of those busts they will stay and try to get Landry but if they want Johnson they will trade with the Lions because the lions are a weak team who wants more talent ane the Falcons will have to trade them several picks or players and the lions are willing to trade the second pick. I think it could happen but im not for certain it will. they should the cause their receivers suck bad

I'd try to trade down if I was ATL. Get Reggie Nelson a bit later in the first round, and get some extra picks to stockpile the WR's. There are some good later-round options at WR IMO
