Official Saints Superbowl Thread
Well well well....phew. I've not yet recovered from this game. First, hats off to the Vikings, even with severely losing the turnover margin they had this game in OT and were a Pierre Thomas lunge away from likely winning the game (and a Tracy Porter INT I suppose).
There were so many key plays it's hard to recall all of them... - The Bush td that would have made it 4th and in and likely had the Saints going up by 3 rather than him squeaking into the end zone. Huge play. - Obviously the Pierre Thomas 4th and in play to keep the OT drive alive. - The Pass Interference call on David Thomas in OT that should not have been called....but neither should have a bunch of others as well - 12 Men in the Huddle... Man the list goes on and on.....the fumbles, the missed fumble recoveries by the Saints that I thought would really haunt them... I'm so drained....I'll be rocking my Archie Manning Saints jersey on my couch in 2 weeks yet again for luck (it's been good so far...even though playing Peyton in the SB and that name being on the back frightens me a bit...). Geaux Saints. Congrats to everyone associated with the team, all the fans and everyone down there that look to this team for inspiration in the tough times....Who Dat?....You Dat! See you in Miami.

I just want to start by saying Congrats to the Saints organization and fans for the first Super Bowl trip in team history.
There were missed calls, but they went both ways. And I hate to blame anything on the officiating. Its actually a pretty simple game. The Vikings shot themselves in the foot over and over again. They had opportunities to put the Saints away, but just couldn't do it. Six turnovers in a game, you don't deserve to win. And I just hope people will realize this was NOT on Favre at all. Fumbles killed us, plain and simple. Two fumbles inside the 10 yard line is absolutely ridiculous. I actually thought, for a few seconds, that the Vikings might pull it off. Then the 12 men in the huddle call. That changed more than one might think. Instead of most likely calling a run, the Vikings were knocked to the very edge of Longwell's range, which forced them to throw the ball. Favre is flushed out of the pocket, and thus leads to his late read and the INT. Im seriously at a loss for words. I was literally sick to my stomach during this game. Again congrats Saints, and also to the Colts, good luck in the Bowl.

Very odd end to the game. Think about the last minute or so + the OT and how charmed the Saints were. (I may have some minor details incorrect, I'm still recovering)
- On 1st and 10, AP and CT get 0 yards on 2 consecutive rushes after a tremendous throw by Favre (and carry by Taylor) sets them up in Saints territory with a shot to win it. - 12 men in the huddle then makes it 3rd and 15. 12 men in the huddle? WTF? - Now they elect to throw but instead of just falling forward, Favre throws across the field and……pick - Saints win the coin toss - With Roby injured, Pierre Thomas gets back there and returns OT kickoff 40 yards to the 40. - Questionable pass interference on David Thomas keeps drive alive - Pierre Thomas leaps and almost fumbles. Questionable whether he gets 1st down after ball nearly comes loose - Questionable whether ball thrown to Meachem hits the ground, sets up FG - The John Carney replacement who got suspended for PED’s early in the season has a dream the night before that he kicks a GW 42 yard FG in OT and calls his dad at 2am to tell him. He hits from 40. Game Over. Perhaps the biggest play no one talks about was the Bush TD where he squeaked in over the pylon. He goes out on the 1 and it’s 4th and inches and they likely kick a FG to go up only by 3. Huge huge play getting in the end zone there. More than made up for the fumbled punt.

The refs let the Saints hit Favre late all day. The Saints beat the **** out of Favre and the refs turned a blind eye.
The leaping first down in OT was not a first down. The ball never crossed the first down plane. I wanted the Saints to win, but not like that. I'm not accusing the Saints, Im accusing the Officials. They stunk Sunday. Now that being said, I want the Saints to win the Super Bowl, but in reality, I think Payton Manning (who I hate) is going to cut them to pieces. I don't think it'l even be close. I'll be praying for a miracle, (like maybe put Payton out of the game with a late hit). |

Favre is a class act, maybe the best football player of all time. As for the late hits, I've seen roughing the passer called this year more than ever, and many times when it was unavoidable. Some of the hits on Favre were easily avoidable. Let's see how they call it in Miami. I'll bet the refs protect Payton (baby face) Manning much more than they did Favre. |

LOL... Lots of folks never thought this thread would happen!
I know I didn't.My team got spanked by the Vikings. Even so, I was rooting for the Vikings last night. They kicked their own ass with turnovers and stupid mistakes. Most teams would fold with 5 turnovers, but the Vikings kept it even throughout the game and took it to overtime. It was definitely an exciting game! Now, in all fairness... The Saints were all over the ball and all over Favre. They are a very physical team that is damned good at creating those turnovers. They definitely earned the right to be in the Superbowl! The way my luck is running... Maybe I should ensure a Saints Superbowl victory by rooting for the Colts... ![]()
