This is the 2008 Packers thread. What does Favre have to do with it?

Good question. I though that the Drama Queen was shipped off to the Jets, for "future considerations",wich means a 3rd roung draft pick next year (the Jets are not going to the playoffs this year).

I would hope that the Pack can put this soap opera behind them and concentrate on football now. There is the possibility that some of the guys are going to blame Rodgers for the Farve departure, and that must be overcome quickly. The biggest thing that must be overcome is the Cal jinx. Their NFL QB's have not done well of late. None of them have panned out to anything, and with Minnesota vastly improved, so the Pack has little room for error this season. I still expect them to make the playoffs, and then do what they have done in recent years. Choke away a game.

I think it's not so much a "Cal jinx" as being a QB who was in Jeff Tedford's system in college. Think of the "Tedford Five" (as an ESPN.com writer once called them some time before the 2005 draft, of which Rodgers was a prospect) :

Trent Dilfer
Akili Smith
David Carr
Joey Harrington
Kyle Boller

All first-round picks, may I add!

What I can't figure out is why the Pack has absolutely ZERO experience at the QB position. You would think that they would go out and sign someone with starting experience to back up Rodgers incase he is injured (which is about 50/50 now). If Rodgers gets hurt, the ship has sailed in Green Bay.

Key NFC North Match-up is Rodgers versus Tavaris Jackson. Whoever is better will lead their team to the division title.

After next week, the Packers will sign a vet and end up carrying 4 QB's and going lean at another position. Thompson is too proud to cut Brohm or Flynn, but he's also smart enough to know that if Rodgers goes down the Packers' season is 100% done.

Mark my words.

Green Bay Packers

Without Brett Favre, they'll be about a 8-8 team, maybe 9-7 if they're lucky in a few games. I mean, this is a team that has 20 of its 22 starters from last year, but they're missing the face of their franchise, the key guy. I don't know, Aaron Rodgers hasn't started a single game in the NFL, so, we'll see. I don't see 'em gettin' too far, though.

Something I found interesting while reading SI.com:

Last season the Packers were probably one of the better teams in terms of QB depth, you had Favre (HOF QB) and Rodgers (talented yet unproven)

In contrast, this season the Packers are probably one of the most shallow teams in term of QB depth; none have started a game in the NFL, Aaron Rodgers and 2 rookies, so not only none have started a game but two of them have never even taken a snap in an NFL game (not even to hold for a FG).

Talk about falling fast just by losing one player.

I am a huge Packer fan but honestly I would love to see this season blow up in their faces.

I don't care who you are, you do NOT treat the single greatest player in the history of your franchise like that.

I am sickened to the fact I have stood up on almost every count for Ted Thompson and for him to take that trust that us faithful have given him, and to throw the key piece of the teams chance for the Super Bowl away because of his ignorant pride and ignorance. Disgraceful.

Thompson and McCarthy rode Favre to long cushy contracts and then shot the mule they rode the whole way.

The day Favre was traded was the darkest day in the history of the Packers, I don't care what you changed in the playbook for Rodgers dude CHANGE IT BACK, YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT BRETT F**KING FAVRE.

The Packers are now resting on the shoulders of Aaron Rodgers the man who in two games has been hurt more than Favre has in 16 years.

Green Bay will be better off when Thompson is fired, I didn't say if but WHEN.

Well lost our first game this season, well on the bright side of things at least we know Dallas can't win in January so getcha popcorn ready if they make it far enough they won't be lucky enough to have Harris and Bigby out of the next game.

Poor TO looked pretty mad/upset/irritated whatever term you want to use either way take a picture and show someone who didn't know they would think Dallas lost the way that crybaby looked.

Didn't he say how he was going to burn Woodson and whatnot?
