Some of my thoughts on this year's draft class...
Jordy Nelson - Probably means the end for Koren Robinson, regardless of how well K-Rob plays. Ted Thompson is notorious for his "stand by your man" post draft loyalty. He'll bounce Robinson before giving up on Nelson and admitting epic fail on a 2nd round pick. I think Nelson has potential, personally, but I question drafting a guy that's not really on anyone's RADAR when you could have drafted the top safety in the country (for example). Brian Brohm - I'm a fan of this pick purely for value. But I'm also going to puke if I hear "Quarterback controversy" one more time. Barring an Aaron Rodgers injury, Brohm has ZERO chance of seeing playing time as a rookie or of even pushing Rodgers for the job. This was a good pick and I'm sure even Rodgers would agree with that. Jermichael Finley - I also like this pick. The kid has potential. Donald Lee is fine, but it's really smart to bring in a guy like Finley to develop. He could be really good in a year or two. Jeremy Thompson - I don't know enough about him to comment. Sitton and Giacomini - Early reports from camp are that both of these guys are really impressing coaches with their strength, versatility and mean streaks. These guys could be a couple of gems. Matt Flynn - Again, I see this as a "best value available" kind of pick. Also, it's a way for Ted Thompson to drive huge nails in the "Favre's coming out of retirement" coffin...and then cover the grave in cement and park a bulldozer on top of it. Brett Swain - Don't know enough about him to comment. |
