So Let's Talk Aaron Rodgers...
So, I’ve already brought up his name on several occasions on this board, most notably as one of the most underrated back-up QBs in the league, and mentioning him as a good safety net for the Packers should Favre had gone down in the playoffs this year. But just who is Aaron Rodgers and what has he done… I went and did a little searching, since with Brett pulling the plug, as we all knew was bound to happen sooner or later, that time appears to have come sooner then later. Given this fact, it is most likely that Mr. Rodgers will likely be stepping into a starting roll in this next off season. So again, what has he done?
Rodgers hailed from Chico in Butte County, California. He attended Pleasant Valley High School in Chico, California, and garnered 4,419 passing yards and started for two years at quarterback. He had set single-game record of 6 touchdowns and 440 all-purpose yards and Rodgers also set a single season record by having 2,466 total yards. Rodgers garnered little interest from Division I programs out of Pleasant Valley with only one offer, as a walk-on, from the University of Illinois. Rodgers declined the invitation to attend Butte College for an opportunity to transfer to a Division I university after his sophomore year. Rodgers was discovered by California football head coach Jeff Tedford in 2003 as a freshman, while recruiting Garrett Cross. As a junior college transfer with three years of eligibility, Rodgers was named the starting quarterback for California in the fifth game of the 2003 season, against the only team that offered him a division I opportunity out of high school, Illinois. He helped lead the Golden Bears to an 8-6 record, including an upset overtime win over then-No. 3 ranked University of Southern California in his second career start and an Insight Bowl victory against the Virginia Tech Hokies. In 2003, Rodgers tied the school season record for 300+ yard games with 5 and set a school record for lowest percentage of passes intercepted at 1.43%. As a junior, Rodgers led California to the No. 4 regular season ranking. The Bears lost only one regular season game that year, a closely contested and well played game at #1 Southern California that the Bears lost 23-17. In that game, Rodgers set a school record for consecutive completed passes with 26 and tied a NCAA record with 23 consecutive passes completed in one game. Rodgers set a school single game record for passing completion, completing 85.3% of his passes in that game. Rodgers also holds the school career record for lowest percentage of passes intercepted at 1.95%. After the season, Rodgers entered the 2005 NFL Draft. Eventually going to the Packers with the 24th pick over all, which shocker most people since he was expected to go much earlier in the draft, even though he remained the 2nd QB take in the draft that year. Since his arrival in the league, he’s played 2nd fiddle to the legendary Brett Favre. Fast Forward to 2007. Weeks after an emotional interview with NBC's Andrea Kramer following the team's season-ending victory at Chicago, Favre announced he would stay with the Packers for the 2007 season, again postponing Rodgers' hopes of becoming the Green Bay Packers' starting quarterback. Prior to the 2007 season, rumors surfaced about a potential trade involving Rodgers in which he would be traded to the Oakland Raiders for wide receiver Randy Moss. However, Moss was traded to the New England Patriots during the second day of the 2007 NFL Draft, and Rodgers stayed in Green Bay. The Oakland Raiders received a 4th-round draft choice in the trade for Moss. Rodgers would later step in for Favre when the latter was injured in the second quarter against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football on November 29th, 2007. Rodgers completed 18 passes for 201 yards, with no interceptions. He also threw his first touchdown pass, but was sacked three times. Rodgers brought the team back from a 17 point deficit to a 3 point deficit, but the Cowboys went on to win 37-27. At any rate, given Aaron's history, and what little we've seen from him, the questions are still looming around the young QB. But if what we've seen as of late from the young QB is any indication things may not be as bad as those who keep wanting Favre to come back for yet another season may think. In his fourth season, Aaron is posied to step into a starting position in a team filled with young talent all around him. If things work out, this could be the start a dynasty like team for many years to come. With Favre's retirment, the Pack can now start to move ahead and plan for the future. And the future looks bright indeed for this young squad... Aaron's contract is set to expire at the end of the 2009 season but look for that to change pending the young gun's 2008 season, maybe even sooner given Favre's departure this season. Info taken from Wikipedia, your source for misinformation, LOL!.

I don't know... I think that people don't realize what Aaron Rodgers can do. Trading him away at such a young age after he's spent three years working the Packers system just isn't as smart as starting all over with a spanking new guy who might not fit as well...

Its about time that aaron rogers starts for the packers. He has alot of potential they could still be a good team with him. Probably not make it to the superbowl but still a good team.

I could see that more so then a trade, but that was what the original suggestion was, to trade Aaron for Sage... Fact is, that Brett choosing to leave at this point has made it harder for the team over all since they could have made moves for Anderson had they known sooner... I could then see giving up Aaron and #2 or #3 for that. But in the end, this a day that in reality will be a good thing for all parties since both sides will now have closure and the Pack can now plan on how to proceed from here on out...

i think they'll be better off w/ Arod than Danderson. like u said, he doesn't know the offense like aaron. i personally can't wait to see what this kid can do. one adv. he has is the ability to pick up 3rd and long w/ his legs.

Dont forget the numbers he put up against that dallas D when Favre went down he brought them back into the game... I think hes ready and its about time... The Pack are a team to watch out for for a long time to come... They are young on both sides of the ball

The Pack just got younger. And what better a spot than the QB to do it. Rodgers has sat behind arguably the best QB of all time for 3 years and has learned the system.
Being a Vikings fan, I think the Pack will be fine. Unless Rodgers turns out to be another soft Californian-type QB.

I totally disagree. The Pack snuck up on people this year. They had their opportunity and blew it at home. That will not happen next year. The Pack now must concentrate on finding a back-up for an inexperienced, unproven QB from Cal, a team noted for QB busts in the NFL. Minnesota has really improved. Green Bay will be lucky to win their division, much less match last years effort. Green BAy will be good, but certainly not the team they were last year.

He'll be ok. Sure he doesn't have game experience so the first half of the season will be uneven. However, he knows the system well after being in it for 3 years and has a good supporting cast. By week 8 he'll be comfortable and effective.
