Rex Grossman

Grossman doesn't know where he'll be next year

Here is the best quote from the above article...

The Bears are 5-8 and out of the playoff picture. Grossman, a first-round pick in 2003, said he wants to be somewhere where he can compete for the starting job

Now, after an erratic season that saw him losing his starting job to Brian Griese after the first three games and then getting it back, he doesn't know what will happen once the season ends.

"I'd like to be back here if I'm wanted back here," said Grossman, who endured heavy criticism last season despite helping the Bears make the Super Bowl. "We'll see what goes on."

He wants to be somewhere where he can compete for the starting job ? WTF!!!

Hello, dumbass...you are in a great position to compete for the staring job.

You have Grossman, Griese, Orton...and yet he (Grossman) can't nail down the starting job between the 3 of them...that shows lack of confindence.

Not only that, when he plays his #'ers aren't that great and he cant stay injury free...seems like he hurts something every season.

The bears won gams with Ortn at the helm, and in a way i'm glad rex is hurt, get Orton back in there and let him make a run.

Maybe, next year Leak will be the starter.

Rex is talking about next year. It is clear that Chicago is moving on without him.

As for Orton, don't get your hopes up. He played considerably worse than Grossman has (he is like the "bad Rex" all the time). The difference in the Bear's record with Orton, Rex last year and the Bears this year is not due to the QB play. It is because their defense isn't nearly as good as it was and their running game has gone to crap.

Leak is a longshot to even suit up in the NFL. He really doesn't have any of your prototypical QB talents and isn't athletic enough to switch positions.

Bears need outside help at QB. Rex was your best shot at a decent starter, he clearly hasn't developed as hope. Nobody else on the roster is starter-grade or has starter upside.

As a Vike's fan, I can only pray that you do indeed go into next year with Leak and Orton competing to start.

He's a favourite of Bradshaw. Hard to believe how one of the best QBs of all-time is completely inable to judge talent at that position.

Rex's pro career is over after this season. Bears will draft a starter or get a good free agent signed. If they haven't learned their lesson with these below par QBs, Lovie will be fired.

I will bet the farm it isn't.

Ryan Leaf, who bombed lightyears beyond what Rex has, was given a second chance by the Cowboys. When he bombed there, he was given yet another chance by the Seahawks.

Rick Mirer is known as a notorious draft bust... he had a >10 year NFL career.

Eric Couch was signed by the Packers... twice... and given a try out.

Akili Smith, who did nothing in his NFL career, was brought in by the Packers as well.

Grossman accomplished more than all of those (a case can be made for Mirer). He will absolutely be brought in by some team. He might not have a crack at the starting job, but you can guarentee a team will at least give him a shot at being the back-up.

Dilfer's MO was always low risk. He was/is your classic game manager who makes few mistakes and even fewer big plays.

(Assuming he doesn't develop further) Rex is the high-risk / high-reward type. I see him as more an Aaron Brooks type (but he doesn't seem to have the same attitude problem as Brooks). Rex isn't the kind who will last late in his career as a reliable mentor/back-up ala Dilfer. He is only going to last as long as he is able to throw a good ball. When his physical skills erode to the point where he can't make the big plays to make up for the big mistakes, he will be done.

If he does end up somewhere else he'd better find a team with a descent offensive line, the guy is a wimp, afraid to take a hit.
