Minnesota Vikings Vikings Sign Adrian Peterson 40.5 Million/5 Years

SI.com - NFL - No. 7 pick Peterson signs with Vikes - Sunday July 29, 2007 4:02PM

Quote:
Running back Adrian Peterson agreed to terms with the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, ending the seventh overall draft pick's brief three-day holdout. Peterson signed a five-year, $40.5 million deal with $17 million in guaranteed money and is expected to be in pads for the team's practice on Monday morning, meaning he will have missed five training camp sessions.
The Vikings are looking for Peterson to infuse a lifeless offense with some much-needed juice. Last year's unit set franchise lows for first downs and touchdown passes, while opposing defenses stacked the box to try to stop Minnesota's only real threat, running back Chester Taylor.

This could be the best backfield combo in the NFL if Taylor is as productive as last year and Peterson stays healthy. You saw what a great backfield combo did to New Orleans last year, maybe the same can happen to the Vikes.

Best backfield combo in the NFL? I highly doubt that. They'll be much improved but not one of the best.

Agreed. Lets see what Peterson can do as a pro before we start jumping to conclusions. He has the talent, does he have the durability?

It will be all but impossible to beat the McAllister-Bush duo, but should Peterson be the real deal, then the Vikes could push into the top-5.

Regardless, this talented duo is doomed by a bad surrounding cast, a bland and sub-par offensive scheme and terrible playcalling from a suspect head coach. This will not be the Saints redux. The Vikes will be lucky to match last year's wins.

But what the heck is up with this contract? Usually, Rob Brzezinski is known as one of the more savvy contract writers, but this seems like a grossly inflated deal. Inflated contracts were one of the complaints made about Spielman when he was with the Dolphins... I hope this isn't Spielman's influence taking over.

i said "if" chester taylor is as productive as last year (303 carries 1216yds. 6 tds. 42 rec. 288 yds.) and adrian peterson stays healthy (4306yds. in 30 career games) then they really could be atleast the 3rd best combo
