You were unclear in your post. You said there were many better LBs who are better players, implying active PLAYERS. You didn't specify Hall of Famers.

Saying that the LBs playing now suck is being rather silly. It is a "in my day..." statement that just doesn't add up. Put Singletary or Nitschke in the league today, and you would be saying how they suck too. Everything old isn't better than everything new. Urlacher is an dominant player who can single-handedly dictate a gameplan. Very few players, in any era, do that. He does.

AJ Hawk better than Urlacher? We shall see. That is akin to saying AJ Hawk will be the best defensive player in the NFL, rather high expectations. Lets start with him proving he is even a legit starter before calling him the next defensive MVP.

I'm all with you, the bears need to play good offenses before I give them a juggernaut title. Looking at the film, you can see favre missed a lot of possible big plays, he looked horrible. Also GB basically had a rookie line, and Green ran for 110 yrds behind that line. Bottom line, CHI looked good, but they didn't impress me as much as a few other teams.

Take it easy there chief. The Packers are likely one of the worst teams in the league.

Next up is the Lions who should allow the Bears another potential shut-out. Let us just wait and see them play a team with an offense before we go overboard.

They were very stout last year, but my spidey sense is telling me they will not be as succesful this season.

i agree with u to an extent

those old lb's would look terrible in todays game, i dont know how anybody could think different. they are faster, and smarter. they have so many pre snap reads, and there is much more that goes into pre game preperation. it's almost like being back in school for football. plus the players that line up on the other side of the ball are bigger and quicker. i dont even want to know what singletary would do if he had to try and shadow a Ladanian Tomlinson all over the field. the only one in the league at that time that can even compare to LT was on his team, so he never had to worry about that dynamic of a player!!!
i do agree that AJ will become as dominant as an urlacher in the near future. and dont sleep on abdul hodge either, screw greenway, Green bay got the best LB out of IOWA last year!!!

you guys are right, old LBs wouldnt last a minute in the nfl. now that i think about it urlacher is an alright player, with all the hype about him you think he would make more BIG PLAYS. i hardly ever hear about him anymore during games, idk maybe i just dont hear it.

It looks to me like the Bears are going to just stroll into first place in the NFC North. Unfortunately for them that isn't saying much. Their offense certainly seems to be clicking right now, but I still don't think they can get too deep into the play-offs with it. Grossman needs more experience and still may or may not be "the guy" and the receiving core lacks depth and top end talent. An outstanding defense can get a team to the play-offs but rarely to the super bowl, Baltimore's last run was the exception not the rule.

Need an example of a better LB than Urlacher? Take a peek at a guy named Ray Lewis playing in Baltimore. He's a bit better than Bri-Guy.

Hi, it is 2006. Welcome to the new millenium!

Lewis is still a good LB, but he isn't even the best LB on his own team anymore. A.Thomas has outplayed him the last two years.

There is nothing Lewis does anymore than Urlacher doesn't do better. Except maybe hide evidence.

Ray Lewis is still at the top of the list for me. Adalius Thomas plays left side linebacker, which means many more sacks. Ray Lewis is still the best all-around LB in the league. He's there on almost every play it seems. The guy is a machine. Grossman isn't being criticized anymore is he? 4 TD's and looking good. Bears are an NFC juggernaut.

Thomas plays SAM, WILL, MIKE, DE, DT even Safety in some situations. He not only gets more sacks, he just makes more plays. He is their johnny-on-the-spot and arguably the most versatile player in the league (on par with the pre-injury Julian Peterson in that capacity).

Lewis is a Hall of Famer and was the best LB (arguably best defensive player) for a long time. That time has passed. He has lost a step, he can't shed blockers well and he can't stay healthy. At this point, Lewis is more name than performance. He might stick in the top-5 at MLB, but that is all. The last time Ray was a dominant defensive player was 2003.

Before hopping on the Grossman Bandwagon, look at who he has played. Lions and Packers. Lets see him perform against even a top-20 defense first.

OK lets all take a second to put some of this ignorance into perspective........
.....alright.. When saying that Urlacher is overrated and that you never hear his name anymore Your thinking that he has lost a step or something along those lines right?? well think about it The reason you dont hear his name as much is because of the support around him look at all the defensive stars on the team he no longer has to be the only one to make plays and yes he is if not the most Premier LB's in the game and Way Way better than A.J. Hawk the only LB as of right now that will compare is Shawn Merriman of the Chargers..Now if i was a Green Bay fan i would prolly hate urlacher too because he is pretty much the only name you know of but what you're really mad at is the whole "D" because they pretty much own GB.....

What does the Lions defensive job against Seattle have to do with the Bears defense against the Lions offense?
