Roy Williams sucks

The football world is starting to pick up on the demise of Roy Williams. The Cowboys will be much better off if they can find any team dumb enough to trade for him.

Status of Dallas Cowboys' Roy Williams slowly sinking

Quote:
Williams is a constant topic of scrutiny because of the inexplicable slide his career has taken in Dallas, and his woeful response.
Once face of the franchise, Williams facing hazy future

Quote:
But now as the Cowboys prepare to christen a $1 billion stadium in 2009, there's a good chance Williams won't be around for the grand opening.
. . . .
I learned that former secondary coach Clancy Pendergast, now the defensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals, had serious concerns about Williams' ability to learn the defense. When he traveled to the Oklahoma campus and put Williams on the dry erase board, he quickly learned that it would be a difficult transition for the college All American. Veteran scout Jim Hess, a former college coach, agreed with Pendergast's assessment.
Terence Newman: Roy Williams gets 'deer-in-headlights' look

Tuesday Conversation with Darren Woodson

Quote:
In the past, Woodson has been one of Williams' biggest defenders, but during our 30-minute conversation Saturday, he seemed genuinely worried about the former first-round draft choice. In the column, Woodson blames himself for not teaching Williams more when he had the chance.
. . . .
The other thing Woodson's concerned about is that he's hearing Williams is the first one to leave the facility after practices. It's certainly not the player he knew. "I can't see it," he said. "I used to make his [expletive] sit there and watch film after practice."
Cowboys ex defends embattled Williams

Quote:
But even Woodson admitted, "I think his focus is still on wanting to be the big hitter."

Since the NFL office folks began fining Williams for crash-dummy hits, and then legislated against the horsecollar tackle (aka The Roy Williams Rule), Williams hasn't been the same player.

And his approval rating has plummeted.

It should come as no surprise, Williams was never really that good in coverage at Sucklahoma to begin with. If not for that big hit in the Cotton Bowl against UT, I doubt that he would’ve been as glorified as he was.

Roy Williams is a perfect older-generation strong safety.

Problem is, the game has changed significantly since those days, and everyone in the defensive backfield needs good coverage instincts now.

That is very true, hit em is right if he bulks up he can be a OLB. He is a really big hitter that could actually help them in there run defense is he moves to OLB.

He reminds me of David Fulcher who played for the Bengals in the late 80's. He also was a big safety who looked lost on pass plays. He never lived up to his potential because he wasn't moved to OLB where I think he would have been good. Roy Williams needs to bulk up and become an OLB or he will be always be a liabilty for their defense.

I don't think that would work. He's already playing overweight. He can't get much bigger.

He's too small for it. It would take a lot of roids to get him inflated to the size he'd need there.

David Fulcher was better than you give him credit for.

But he was more of a hitter than a cover guy, I'll give you that.

Funny thing, today I walk into the Dallas Cowboys Pro Shop, to look and buy a replica jersey, just something to run around in and play a lil flag football in. And I'm looking around and I spot the clearance section and who'd a thunk it Roy Williams replica white jerseys marked down from ~$80 to ~$30, kinda funny how news and everything affects all that. I mean even a Terry Glenn jersey costs more that Roy's.

Actually, Ed Reed got robbed (highway robbery!) at the annual awards ceremony for the best Safety/DB in the country that year. I remember being furious about that.

Look at Ed Reed now. Look at Williams. Enough said.

Williams was a similar caliber of player at the NCAA level but more of a rover at OU anyway; Reed was a pure safety and completely dominant at the U, I'll agree. Insane talent.

Brian Urlacher was a safety in college.
