Should the skins retire the #21 jersey?
I am new to the board so I don't know if this has been discussed. I was wondering if anyone thinks if the Skins should retire the #21 jersey? I think it should be retired because I think it would be very hard to see someone esle wearing #21 and not think of Sean and not of think how great he could have been if he had not been taken a way from us at such a young age.

Welcome to the board!
Washington only has one retired number...number 33 for Sammy Baugh. They do, however, have a bunch of "unofficially retired numbers." I'm guessing #21 will become one of those. |

Non Redskins fans just don't get it, Sean was an amazing player who made the game fun to watch for us and everyone loved him and his number should be retired

Yes, "other" fans do get it. Players from other teams have passed, so don't act like your team is the only one who has gone through it. I am not a Redskins fan, but I was a huge Taylor fan. I don't think his number should officially be retired. Like Pack Attack said, they could "unofficially" retire it, so no one else could wear it.
One example, the Broncos had to deal with 2 deaths within a few months, and neither one of those numbers were retired.

So being murdered during the season qualifies you to have your jersey retire? Like I said, it should be "unofficially" retired, where no one is allowed to wear it.
The Broncos had to deal with one murder and one unexpected death. The 49ers dealt with an unexpected death. The Vikings have dealt with an unexpected death. Thats what the Redskins went through. An unexpected death. I don't really want to argue about this. I'm just saying that other teams have gone through similar situations.

Unofficially retired is one that i agree with, I mean it's up to the Redskins if they want to do it officially or not, but I don't see the reasoning behind it. As Loose has said, there have been many deaths in the NFL, it doesn't matter if it happened during the season or in the offseason a death is a death, but it doesn't automatically qualify you for that honor or the Hall of Fame or any of that.

This happend on the field? A player's personal life is his own business. A tragic event perhaps... Don't get me wrong, it's a bad thing, but if some Hall of Famers don't have their jerseys retired why should this guy. Seriously... Before you call me a hatter, I've got my Taylor jersey at home, it's in my collection, but lets face it, he wasn't the best in the game his numbers were good but nothing to indicate that he would have retired in the HOF.
And as a side note, because I'm an ahole... I've never, in all my years of working, met someone that's been punched in the face that didn't in some way deserve it. I would have to assume, that aside from victims of drive bys and serial killers, the same goes for people who get shot...

Sean Taylor was the best player on Redskins roster and if he would have had the chance he would have been a Hall of Famer but we will never know

I'm not going to deny that he was a great player and that he was protecting his family... but I just don't see him being deserving of a retired jersey. He only played for a few seasons and he was a HUGE headache half the time. Don't forget what a pain in the arse he was before "turned his life around".
