Colt Brennan

Alright, touchy subject as he's protrayed and close to proven as a system QB. But, with that said, how do you think he fairs in NFL play. Washington has been looking for a QB that can throw effectively and consistantly, and not only can Brennan do that, he can run. Here's my breakdown of Brennan, slight bias though, keep it in mind.

Pros: Footwork - First thing I see in him that will help his NFL career. He can avoid the rush so smoothly, yet still be able to launch the ball.
Quick Release - No need for an explaination, quick release is always a plus in the NFL.
Vision - Not many notice it due to the receivers he had in Hawaii, but Brennan has an uncanny ability to find the open receiver. He sees the whole field, and almost always sees the pass rushers.
Cannon Arm - He's got a rocket attached to his shoulder. Mr. Hawaii can throw the ball ahead of so many defenders, so when he gets a good receiver like in Hawaii (Santana Moss, Antwaan Randle El) that ball will be in the end zone so much.

Cons: Size - He's been picked on all offseason for it, but he's even admitted that he dropped some weight. Needs to pick up his playing weight.
Inability to Lead Receivers - Saw it in the Senior Bowl practices and games. He can throw the deep ball, but ask him to hit the player in the numbers on a dig route and we have a problem. This can be taught in the NFL, but boy does it hurt him right now in the eyes of critics.
Moves A Lot - Pretty much contrary to what I said in pros, his footwork can hurt him in the NFL. Need to establish himself in the pocket before he starts dancing in the backfield.
Lack Of Knowledge Of Under Center Offence - June Jones never put him under center, lets see how it works when he gets here.

Overall - If he's taught how to lead a receiver and get under the center and play well from there, he should be fine. I've come to terms that he'll never be a pocket passer, which like I said, could hurt him. Size is a non factor to me because in my personal experiences, I think size doesn't deal with football if you're good. His vision, quick release, and cannon of an arm will help him get a starting job either half way through this season, or next.

Thoughts?

I really like Brennan and I hope he proves all the doubters wrong. I think he has some raw talent, and with the right staff, he could be a good NFL quarterback.

I think its unfair for critics to criticize Brennan for the bowl game. Georgia had a far better, faster, stronger line than did Hawaii. Brennan had no time to even make a read before he was drilled from any given direction.

he's not big so that crazy release could be a problem but i love his arm strength and toughness

Brennan is never going to do anything in the NFL. He's too small, and we saw what happened to him against Georgia. Imagine him against a NFL defense. He also seems to get rattled too easy.

Anyone's going to look good when you pass 60 times in a game. Timmy Chang, Sonny Cumbie or B.J. Symons anyone?

Brady, Manning, Favre.....The same can be said for them really. Especially Brady, he runs the same spread offence as June jones as of this year. Shouldn't assume that Brennan was good just because of the offence he was in, because without Brennan, they wouldn't have had a QB that broke a bunch of passing records in the NCAA. I doubt another QB would have done that, Hawaii or not.

Did you really just compare Colt Brennan to Tom Brady, Petyon Manning and Brett Favre?

Any QB would break passing records when you pass 65 times against teams the likes of Idaho, UNLV and Charleston Southern. At least Texas Tech QB's actually played teams that are good.

Brennan won't amount to **** in the NFL. Brady, Manning and Favre have what Colt Brennan doesn't. They have good size, they're tough and all three of them don't get rattled under pressure.

Breenan is going to be a second string quarterback his entire career maybe starting once. He did`nt play anyone good in college. And when he got the chance he died against Georgia.

Alright, we'll see. I'm thinking this is one of those I told ya so moments in the making. But, we'll leave it at this for now because I have no counter arguements at the moment.

He didn't die. He died, they took him to the hospital and brought him back to life, then he died again.
