Ok I'm gonna defend my man Terence Newman here.
Ya'll say he ain't that great of a corner and that Sheppard is better than him but I'll prove ya wrong.
Terence Newman has been in the league 4 years compared to Sheppard's 5 so he should have better stats right? Wrong

These are career stats.

Tackles
Newman - 267 (Avg 66.75/year)
Sheppard - 175 (Avg 35/year)

Sacks
Newman - 2 (Avg .5/year)
Sheppard - 2 (Avg .4/year)

Stuffs
Newman - 6 (Avg 1.5/year)
Sheppard - 2 (Avg .4/year)

Forced Fumbles
Newman - 3 (Avg .75/year)
Sheppard - 2 (Avg .4/year)

Interceptions
Newman - 12 (Avg 3/year)
Sheppard - 15 (Avg 3/year)
That is even after Sheppard put up 6 last season and Newman only put up 1, mainly b/c people threw away from Newman.

Passes Defensed
Newman - 64 (Avg 16/year)
Sheppard - 61 (Avg 12.2/year)

The only thing that Sheppard has a leg up on Newman is that he has more touchdowns, and interception return yardage, than Newman. But other than that Newman averages better statistics and in less years as well. As his numbers clearly state, Newman is solid in both tackling and pass coverage, statistically much better than Sheppard. So really who is the better cornerback??

now newmans a very good player..dont get me wrong, but last time i checked football was a team sport..

so, if thats the case, then its fair to look at what their teams records have been since theyve playd for their respective clubs..

as a total the cowboys are 34-30 with a %53 winning #. and the eagles with lito are 53-27 with a %66 winning #.

so, my question is that if newman is so great, and that much better than lito, then why is there a 13 point percentage difference between the two teams in the years the players of discussion have played for their seperate clubs? shouldnt the great newman have an impact to a point that at least brings our teams fairly close to even as far as winning percentage if hes that much better???

aparently newmans personal stats dont impact the teams ability to win quite as much as you think.

..

mmmhhmmm thats what I thought

Difference is that Eagles have had a better offense than the Cowboys have had in the past few years. The Eagles have been the better all around team in the past few years than the Cowboys have been. That is why there is a disparity in the records. As you have clearly stated football is a team sport and that is why I do not factor in the TEAM record when comparing two players and their skills. You can be a great player but on a mediocre team and you WILL NOT affect the outcome of every game.

Sheppard has had a better career TEAM record because he has had a very very strong offense to support him in the last 5 years, whereas Newman has not had that. We have had old statue QBs at the helm until last season. You can only compare individuals using their individual stats, not team stats, because one CB doesn't make his team.

Lito doesn't get thrown on as much so he doesn't get as many pick opportunities, plus, doesn't cornerback tackles usually indicate getting passed on then tackling...or not having a great front 7 to where a runner gets into the secondary? and no i'm not saying newman is bad...just sheppard is better
