Michael Irvin's Hall of Fame speech was stirring, it was poignant, and it was touching, both for me and I'm sure for the exceptionally large group of people to whom he gave credit. He talked about life, he talked about football, and he talked about the gray area in between where fans, friends, and memories were, are, and will continue to be made. The part where he talked about "Remember the Titans," and how he treasures the joy of watching football bring together people of all races, creeds, and upbringings was just heart felt.
And when he spoke to his sons, tears running down his face, asking them to be better men than he, asking them to be men like Reggie White, true role models, I wanted everyone to stand and applaud him just like I was doing, because it was the first time I'd seen Michael Irvin behaving like the role models he dreamed of being. He bared his soul, and every person who watched was able to experience just how much it meant to him to share such a catharsis with the people he loved and the people who loved him. So congratulations, Michael Irvin, on a whole lot more than becoming a Hall-of-Famer. The man who stood on that stage was not the drug-using, flamboyant braggart we're all so used to seeing; it was a God-loving family man who understood the way in which he could change lives, and the ways in which he has hopefully changed his. And so Cowboy or not, problems or not, congratulations Michael Irvin. On a WHOLE lot more than becoming a Hall-of-Famer.

I am sorry that I missed it. I saw some of it on SC and everything he said is what he meant. I am going to have to see the whole thing somehow.
Congrats, Emmitt will follow you soon. |

I still can't and never will respect Irvin, unlike Emmitt, Troy and others.
Just my opinion.

Irvin's speech was absolutely fantastic. You don't have to change your opinion of him at all, but if people haven't seen it, see it. It's incredibly heartfelt and incredibly different too see an athlete do what he did during that speech. Everyone has their transgressions, some more than others and Irvin is certainly in that group, but he acknowledges it in this speech. Should be linked here via You Tube as soon as it's up there.

Here's a little bit of it, the first like 1:40 is of this guy talking about himself being an eagles fan and some about Michael Irvin, and there's damn m
usic in the background, but what the playmaker says drowns it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3cNC...elated&search= |

Good on him for what he said to his kids IMO... but as a Bills fan, him tearing us apart in a Super Bowl and winning another against us on top of that, it really never left him with a nice comfortable place in my heart

Love him or hate him that speech was unbelievable. I will never defend his actions off the field, but the Cowboys have been missing his on the field leadership since that trajic day in Philly. He may of come off as a show boat, but that was just his way of pumping up the team around him. Go back and watch any game he played in, when the defense was on the field he was up and down the sideline in the face of anyone who wasn't as motivated as him. He was a field general and one of the greatest Cowboy's of all time. On the field he was complete class. It's a shame everyone remembers him for the off the field habbits that made so much news.
