i'm thinking he might go to denver now that ekuban went down. he would fit in pretty good there, an al wilson type of linebacker they don't have anymore. that way they could keep d.j. williams on the outside where i think he could be a pro bowler year in and year out.
just my thoughts.....where do u guys think he will head to? |

his knees were done. it was getting harder and harder to go sideline to sideline. crossing patterns, screens and stretch plays were killing us with him on the field. gaither is less of a liability on the field and with bradley as a backup trot ended up being expendable.
hate to see him go but i think it will ultimately improve the team. |

After my initial anger passed, the defensive line is much improved over last year. And hopefully, they won't need Trotter to blow up the middle in order to contain the run anymore. I think Gaither has a huge amount of athletic potential. The problem is now a question of depth. I guess Trotter can start for the saints or broncos making the Eagles bench not so appealing as it once was, but I would have loved to have his veteran leadership on the sidelines.

Though I can't say it is too surprising, Eagles have a history of these kind of moves. The question remaining, is this another Douglas/Taylor "just in time" release where the player's quality seasons are done? Or is this like when they let Trotter go last time and struggle to replace him?
Trotter was slow and lacked range, but he was great between the tackles. The Eagles ability to stop the run was never the same without him. Eagles are giving up a good 30-40 pounds with Gaither in the middle. With a small set of DTs, that bulk (to say nothing of Trotter's tackling and ability to diagnosis the run) could be missed. Eagles may end up having to shuffle their LBs to make up for this. Perhaps Spikes in the middle. It would help mask Spikes fading physical skills as well. What's next for Trotter? Personally, I think he would be a fantastic fit in a 3-4. He has the size, experience and style to excel. Plus, he wouldn't have as much of the field to cover. With the loss of Edwards and Godfrey, and even though they have some hopeful youngsters, Chargers should be giving him a ring.

when i heard the news i was awestruck. very shocked, and not exactly the most understanding fan in the world. but, after ive thought about it now, the eagles might be better off with out him this year. like people say, hes not able to run or drop in coverage at all. its gona clear up some room for our younger players to step up. with the exidus of trotter and jones, its great to have a sure tackler like spikes to rely on. only time will tell if it was a smart move to revamp the linebacker corps from last year, i guess. but when i look at games like the indinapolis one from last year where not one player seemed to be able to wrap up addai or rhodes, i think to myself andy might not only have the right idea, but hes doing the right thing too. that doesnt mean i have to like it though

After sleeping on it, this time I think they were trying to give him an opportunity to make some money elsewhere by cutting him in this fashion. I guess if the Eagles weren't going to pay him what he was still worth then the next best thing is to see if his Agent can get someone to overpay for him. Still between this, the Shawn Andrews injury getting blown out of proportion, LJs injuries and Moats I have to question the teams depth in terms of going the full distance. If a young inexperienced player has to step in during the playoffs and gets a holding penalty, p.i., or roughing the passer on a critical 3rd down that looses the game I'm going to be furious. From a LB and it will be unacceptable.

I'm a born and raised Cowboy fan, but I'm not ashamed of him. He's merely stating his opinion, and as a well-educated Cowboy fan I respect his opinion. There is no shame in stating the Eagles have a good shot at winning it all, because rationally they do. As a Cowboy fan I just hope that the Cowboys play better and the Eagles fall apart at some point.

although trot has left, he was talking earlier about just calling it quits and retireing. i think i would want that to happen rather than have him go to another team and play like a wounded animal. i would just feel better if he ended his legacy as an eagle and mabey even stayed close to the organization, mabey an assistant coach for the defense at some point would be awsome. i mean the flyers do it all the time
