The 2006 Redskin Rewind
The 2006 campaign looked like it was going to be a positive one in Washington going into the season. Fresh off a playoff appearance, the Skins looked to make the NFC East the most talented and competitive division in the NFL. However, the 2006 wound up being a nightmare. Injuries on offense and the collapse of a defense that was a strong point in 2005 ruined any chance the Skins could build on the 2005 campaign. The Skins wound up 5-11. There were some positives to take from the season though. Jason Campbell got his first look at Quarterback. He was solid, but unspectacular. He's young, but if brought along slowly and allowed to learn from his mistakes, he could be a solid QB. Also, after losing the centrepeice to their offense in Clinton Portis, the Skins turned to Ladell Betts. Betts provided more than capable play in the backfield and the duo of Betts and Portis will give the Skins a very strong backfield which should help Campbell's development as he has them to rely on.

landry will be a good saftey, he just has too much potential not to be. but for what picks they didn't have in the next couple of rounds the fact that they got H.B. Blades was pretty good for them i think. i know he's slow but he tackles everything. i think if he turns out they might have a pretty good draft on their hands.

5 Questions
1. Is the defense done? The Skins defense was awful last season when they were expecting it to be a team strength. The secondary is no doubt improved, but is the unit as a whole good enough to stop the opposition? 2. Soup's On! For the first time in awhile the Skins go into Camp knowing exactly who the starter will be and feel confident they may have a guy who can stand behind centre for several years. Will Campbell live up to expectations and provide solid play in the Quarterback position? 3. Does Gibbs have any magic left? The second Gibbs era has been nothing short of a disappointment. Can he get the most out of this team, and if not, is he really the guy to run the show? 4. Anybody out there? A Skins receiving core that looked good on paper flopped last year (anyone seeing a theme here?) Can Moss, Randel-El and Cooley and the newly arrived Brandon Lloyd give the Skins an offensive boost? 5. Chemistry. This has been the team's Achilles heel for years. Expensive talent has been added year after year with no real results. Is this FINALLY the year the Skins at least play like a team?

Breakout Player: Jason Campbell, QB.
Campbell put up decent stats in seven starts in 2006. He has an excellent tandem in the backfield to rely on and if the line can do a decent job of protecting him, Campbell could provide solid, stable play for the Redskins. ![]()

On the Hot Seat: Coach Joe Gibbs
Gibbs was brought in to save the Redskins after Steve Spurrier was brought in to save the Redskins and failed. With only one winning season and the team spinning it's wheels otherwise, the Gibbs era Version 2.0 has not gone as planned. If the Skins miss the playoffs again, will Gibbs stick around for another year? ![]()

Portis is having injury issues and is on the downside. Betts's stock is moving up while Portis's stock is falling. Cooley is still one of the best TEs out there, but with Campbell behind center the Redskins passing game is iffy. Gibbs has this season and maybe next season to get things in line, if he doesn't he's gone.
