Figure when healthy QB McNabb Romo RB Portis Westbrook FB Sellers (not enough credit...amazing blocker) Finn TE Shockey Cooley WR T.O. Burress Moss Glenn/Toomer Oline a lot of good ones...help fill in Dline Strahan Kearse Uminiyora (sp) Daniels (when healthy) others?? Linebackers too many good ones but i would go... Washington Pierce/Fletcher middle Ware CB Brown Sheppard Newman Springs (when healthy) Safety Dawkins/Taylor (interesting with Taylor at SS and Dawkins Ball Hawking) Hamlin Kicker Akers Punter McBriar Fill in what you think |

Don't be so quick to hand the NFCE the crown:
East QB-McNabb RB-Portis FB/TE-Cooley WR-Owens WR-Burress TE-Shockey LT-Samuels LG-Davis C-Gurode RG-Andrews RT-Jansen LDE-Strahan NT-Ferguson UT-Robbins RDE-Umeniyora SAM-Pierce MLB-Fletcher WILL-Spikes SS-Williams FS-Dawkins CB-Newman CB-Springs K-Akers P-McBriar KR-Randel-El For an All-Star team, the DTs blow. Not so sure on the 2nd CB position either. North QB-Favre RB-Peterson (call me a homer, but Benson doesn't do much for me) FB-Richardson WR-Driver WR-Williams TE-Olson LT-Clifton LG-Hutchinson C-Kreutz RG-Garza RT-Tauscher LDE-Kampmann NT-Rogers UT-K.Williams RDE-Ugunleye SAM-Hawk MLB-Urlacher WILL-Briggs SS-Sharper FS-Brown CB-Winfield CB-Woodson K-Longwell P-Maynard KR-Hester Favre is an obvious weak link. RG is bad too. No stand-outs are RB to pick from either. Defense looks spectacular though. Only iffy spot is Sharper. South QB-Brees RB-McAllister FB/TE-Karney WR-Smith WR-Colston TE-Crumpler LT-Brown LG-Wahle C-McClure RG-Forney RT-Gross LDE-Peppers NT-Jenkins UT-Coleman RDE-Smith SAM-Davis MLB-Brooking WILL-Brooks SS-Milloy FS-Minter CB-Barber CB-Hall K-Mare P-Koenen KR-Lewis Other than Hall, secondary looks past their due date. Defense rocks otherwise. Special teams blow. Offense is essentially the Saints show. Thin at WR. West QB-Bulger (until he gets hurt...) RB-Jackson FB/TE-Strong WR-Holt WR-Fitzgerald TE-Davis LT-Jones LG-Allen C-Spencer RG-Heitmann RT-Pace (I know he is a LT, but too good t oleave off) LDE-Kerney NT-Dockett (more an UT, but no good NTs in this division) UT-Carriker RDE-Little SAM-Dansby MLB-Willi WILL-Peterson SS-Wilson FS-Grant CB-Clements CB-Trufant K-Brown P- Lee KR- Hall This is my pick for the NFC winner. Offense beats all, not one position isn't filled with a stand-out player (OK, guard). Defense rocks everywhere but tackle. [AFC] [East] QB-Brady RB-Jones FB/TE-Evans WR-Moss WR-Coles TE-Watson LT-Light LG-Dockery C-Mangold RG-Mankins RT-Carey LDE-Schobel NT-Wilfolk UT-Seymour RDE-Taylor SAM-A.Thomas MLB-Z.Thomas WILL-Vilma (I know he is a MLB, but too good to keep off the field) SS-Rhodes FS-Whitner CB-Samuel CB-McGee K-Nugent P-Mooreman KR-Miller For an all-star team, the O-line is rather weak. Defense looked stacked until it got to the secondary. North QB-Palmer RB-Parker FB/TE-Winslow WR-Johnson WR-Ward TE-Heap LT-Ogden LG-Faneca C-Bentley (assuming he is heathy, the other starters are suspect) RG-Steinbach RT-Anderson LDE-Smith NT-Hampton UT-Ngata RDE-Suggs SAM-Scott MLB-Lewis WILL-Wimbley SS-Polomalu FS-Reed CB-McAllister CB-O'Neal K-Graham P-Zastudil KR-Figurs? We have our winner on offense. Holy wow. Defense isn't far behind. 2nd CB spot is a question mark as are the special teams. South QB-Manning RB-Jones-Drew FB/TE-Clark WR-Harrison WR-Johnson TE-Owens LT-Glenn LT-Manuwai C-Saturday RG-Olson RT-Roos (just want to get him out there) LDE-VanDenBosch NT-Stroud UT-Henderson RDE-Freeney SAM-Ryan MLB-Thorton WILL-Bullock SS-Darius FS-Sanders CB-Robinson CB-Mathis K-Vinatieri P-Smith KR-Drew-Jones Suspect at guard. Everywhere else is tough to beat. West QB-Rivers RB-Tomlinson FB-Neal WR-Walker WR-Porter TE-Gates LT-McNeill LG-Dielman C-Nalen RG-Waters RT-Olivea LDE-Burgess NT-Williams UT-Castillo RDE-Allen SAM-Merriman MLB-Williams WLB-Edwards SS-Lynch FS-Huff (going for potential; weak position) CB-Bailey CB-Asomugha K-Elam P-Lechler KR-Sproles (I just like the guy) This ends up being the Charger show on offense. Defense has more than their share as well. O-Line is so-so for an all-star crew. |

I see way too many "if's" on these teams. Injuries would eliminate a lot of these players. Just look at the NFC East's QB's. You have the oft injured McNabb and the unproven Romo. Now you may argue that he is porven, but I totally disagree. Players do not play part of 1 season and get to be considered proven.
One of you has an injury prone RB who has no taken a snap in a NFL game starting for one of your teams. There are other spots filled in with players who you say are not very good. If that is the case, why pick them? Sorry guys, I can't buy this at all.

2) If you are trying to build a case against McNabb and/or Romo being the best in the NFC East, please explain why Campbell and/or Manning are better. 3) Peterson. Who would be better? The injured Kevin Jones, the injury-prone Bell or the older but also unproven Morency or Benson? Peterson has a lot of talent and the NFC North is quite weak at RB. 4) Yes, some spots are filled by players who are not that good. What is your point? This whole excercise was to build the best team from each division, some teams are weak at various positions. 5) If you are not buying it, then please enlighten us with your version. For a guy that likes to frequently criticize others, you contribute exceedingly little content. Last edited by JCD : 06-12-2007 at 11:50 AM. |

anyway JCD i love your NFC south list but why do you have Karney as FB/TE? i've never seen him play TE do you think he could? and steve thats a good list. i'm not in love with romo him and eli could be tied for the 2nd best QBs in the East but McNabb is very easily the best

Karney is a pure FB, I have never seen him flex out on to the line. I love guys like Karney, Kreider and Neal. No-nonse battering rams that help make their HBs look great. Problem is that all three are pretty limited as players. Can't sub in as a RB, can't line up at TE and many of them don't even play special teams anymore (I think Karney does though). Teams can only afford to dress so many specialized players per game. That is why versatile players who can contribute in multiple areas are valuable (like the long snapper who can play TE). A lot of teams decide that a 1-dimensional FB is a luxary they can't afford. As for Karney, I don't think he would make it as a TE. It is a matter of physics/geometry. He is on the short side, so doesn't have long arms. Teams could put a DE or LB on him wide. With him on the line, it is going to be hard for him to get a good angle blocking on him. It would also negate one of his better attributes. Karney is great at exploding into his block. Give him two-three strides and he will blow open a hole. On the line, it is a lot more about brute strength, hand placement, leverage and footwork. You are working a few inches away from your target, so you don't get to build any momentum. Karney has the ideal make-up for a lead blocker. He runs low, has those quick, chobby steps and hits his opponent well. Why ruin a good thing? With Neal on his last legs (he is SLOW, IMO he really struggles downfield now) and Kreider getting on in years, Karney looks to be the best pure blocking FB in the league for a long time to come. Especially with very few others like him out there. Mughelli gets a lot of attention too, but I was never a big fan. I always thought he was inconsistent. |
