Dallas Cowboys Cowboys 1st Round Draft Pick?

I'm bored of the overrated coach topic so I wanna see what you think the Cowboys could draft in the first round this coming draft.

WR? CB? S? LB? DT? DE? Best Available? Other? or Trade It?

Hopefully a CB. I don't think there will be anyone available at our spot who can make the impact we need on the O-Line. More so then any other sport perhaps, the NFL draft looks at present needs. I'd be pretty pissed if a pick went to a WR when Crayton, Owens and Glenn are all under contract. SI.com's latest mock as Ginn Jr going to Dallas though.

I want to see them take best available. That was the genious of Jimmy Johnson. He built that team by drafting the best player available and then raping teams in trades to get those players from us.

Hey if Ted Ginn Jr. falls to us I wouldn't mind Jerry drafting him. I wouldn't mind if Dwayne Bowe or even Dwayne Jarrett falls into our lap. I think WR will be a position we need to fill in the next few seasons, so might as well fill it now before we start picking 31/32 in the draft. I also wouldn't mind a DB pick but I would really like us to go Offense other than Defense for one year.

yeah, we could get a WR in the first, cause its a real deep CB class this year, go for a CB in the second round this year.

I personally think it'll be a CB if any of the Top 4 are still on the board (Houston, Revis, Hall or Ross) otherwise it'll be BPA and likely a WR.

My issue with taking a WR is that we have a need at Corner now (and at OL, but CB is the easiest to address in terms of talent in the draft). We can get a WR next season. As I said, the NFL draft usually produces the most 'ready' players. It's not like the NHL where you can be looking at a 4-5 year wait before a player is ready to suit up.

You have to remember though, that no rookie... Hall or Revis included... is ready to take the beating he'll take playing opposite of Newman... I mean you're just asking to get picked on. The best guy for us is Revis b/c he's an immediate starter at Nickle (replacing Aaron Glenn) and can "Compete" with Henry for Starting CB and he can play return man. Now that we have Hamlin, Henry's going to stay at CB and we already have a ton of money tied up in our secondary.

If you look at this way, 2 of our 3 day 1 picks are going to be spent on a CB/WR combo.

Either we'll go with Houston/Revis/Hall/Ros and then Hill/Smith/Davis/Gonzo in the 2nd, or we'll go Jarrett/Ginn/Bowe/Meachem in the 1st and then follow that up with Wright/McCaulley/Jackson/Hughes in the 2nd. In the 3rd we're looking at a guy like Brian Robison or Zak DeOssie to shore up our depth at LBer and then in the 4th we'll likely go with Paul Soliai to backup Ferguson. The one exception in my mind is if Tank Tyler falls to us in the 2nd, we'll take him over anyone in the 2nd.

That is a very good point. Most of the time when you see a DB go into the league and gets into the starting lineup he is always gonna get picked on. The interesting thing with the Cowboys is that they have such a great CB in Newman that anyone on the other side is gonna get picked on, just look at what happened to Anthony Henry last season. We will not need to take a safety because I think that either Hamlin or Watkins can hold down the FS position, Hamlin is experienced and pretty good and Watkins just needed to get down the rookie rust. If we take a CB it'll be in the second round, because a rookie WR will have a great impact on the team, although I don't see us playing a rookie wideout considering how much depth we have at that position.

I really think WR is gonna be our pick because we have a youth issue there, and if we do pick a WR it'll be because they are the BPA. But I think there could be a good curve ball in there if there is a good DT or OT on the board, both positions we could use some depth at.

I personally would prefer that we trade down with Chicago for their 31st and 37th and then take Joe Staley and Tank Tyler and the follow that up with an Eric Wright or Jason Hill with the 53rd.

That is an excellent point and one I hadn't really considered. I still think we wind up going with a corner unless someone like Ginn does fall (which would be REALLY surprising to me)

Draft day is only 2 weeks away. I'm looking forward to it. Should be pretty interesting to watch things develop.
