Dallas Cowboys Vanderjagt released. Martin Gramatica signed.

The Cowboys cut Vanderjagt. They signed Martin Gramatica.

I had high hopes when the Cowboys signed him in the off-season, but he really let the team down.

I hope Gramatica can do an adequate job. The salary-cap savings alone makes it a good move for the next few seasons.

Much as I hate the Cowboys, I hate Vanderjagt even more and as a Colts fan will applaud the decision by Cowboy managment.

Not a Colt's fanatic, so I probably don't know the whole story, but why does Indy hate him so much after all he did?

1) Missed a game winning FG in the playoffs?
2) Trashed Peyton in an Interview?

Those are the only things I've heard.

Sadly, Vandy is going to cost the Cowboys $1.6 million of cap room next year.

I hope this doesn't scare Jones away from paying for a kicker in the future.

A little more elaborate then that but is that not enough? He trashed the heart of the team Peyton and one of the most respected coaches in football Tony Dungy by saying they had no heart and wouldnt ever win a superbowl on a TV interview in Canada. Before missing that field goal vs. Pittsburgh he taunted the Pittsburgh players and Cowher before shanking the field goal worse than Ray Finkle. Prior to this he missed numerous clutch kicks for the Colts. He hides behind his "most accurate kicker percentage" and costs wayy to much money. He brought nothing but shame and loss to the organization and no kicker should be such a distraction.

Terrell Owens said to the press that he thinks it was a mistake to cut Vanderjagt. Owens had become close to Vanderjagt. Here is a link from the Star-Telegram, "Cowboys Notes."

I love how no one will pick him up now either. He's finished unless he brings his salary down.

Basically, this proves Dallas made the right decision.

I think it is the right decision, though I am sceptical that Gramatica can do a high-quality job. If he is reliable inside of 40 however, that will make him better than Vanderjagt.
