It was Eli's first full year as a starter. If he takes even a half step foward this year the G-Men will do pretty good this year.

Yeah, Eli's only going to get better.

My real concerns for the Giants are injuries (Chris Snee's knee is bad, Lavar Arrington's legs, Jeremy Shockey's concussions, and if Eli gets hurt, the G-men are G-dead.) and the few games of the season. If the Giants rise to the challenge of Indianapolis, the Eagles in Philadelphia, and the Seahawks in Seattle and reach the bye week of better than 0-3; things will turn out well, I think.

Incidentally, the Giants next preseason game is THURSDAY, against the KC Chiefs at 8 PM. FOX will air the game.

My biggest concern is the schedule and Coughlin.

I read a clip in Newsday todaythat said that Snee is back practicing. I don't know all the details b/c I was just skimming through the paper.

Shockey will be alright. It takes a few weeks to clear the head after a concussion. He should be fine.

Arrington is what concerns me. He's been limited by injuries in his recent past. If he's healthy then the defense has some sharp teeth.

Bottom line regarding injuries is that if Tiki or Eli go down then we have to worry. Pierce staying healthy is key too. We saw what happened without him last year.

I'll agree that the schedule is tough. The other team will think the same when they see they have to play the Giants though.

I don't know why you're concerned about Coughlin though. Do you have a problem with the way he runs the show?

Agreed with this. Its a tough sched, but I think the Giants loom large on any opposing teams schedule

I just don't see the guy being the right man for this team. I'm appalled by his inabilty to adjust to things in-game. The best example of this was the Carolina game. I'll concede that the Giants were playing with guys off the street at linebacker but that doesn't explain why they were shut out. He did nothing to chance things up offensively. The Panthers keyed on Barber (and rightly so) and Coughlin never made the adjustment. He kept handing the ball off the Barber. Mix it up a little. Run a flea-flicker. Line up Barber as a WR. Have Barber and Jacobs line up in the backfield together. Play action fake at least. He did none of that.

Is this something he's done in the past with other teams or was this just last year in the palyoffs?
Hopefully he'll learn from his mistakes.

I believe his inability to adjust his gameplans was one of the big things that saw him leave Jacksonville...

..I notice it, too. He seems very proud of his systems, right or wrong, and while pride is never bad, ignorance is.

I don't really know about his past. He had marginal success with the Jags but he never went to a Super Bowl as a head coach. I'm just concern that he is not the right guy for this team.

He got the Jags to the AFC championship game twice, IIRC. The big thing in Jacksonville was that alot of his players tuned him out.

I was at the last Jaguars home game that he was head coach of, and he was not a fan favorite at all. He was roundly booed and there were banner planes with the message "Fire Coughlin" flying over the stadium. I am not lying. He just has the ability to wear on people. I really hope he has learned from his past mistakes.

I fear he hasn't.

I'm stuck at camp with no tv and this thread is going to save my life. Even better news with no real injuries in the first pre-season week.
