just checked out the photos of the facilities, wow, where does a small town get the funds for this?????? those kids have it made

High school football in Texas is BIG TIME.

It's very, very important. It's a moneymaker, and produces some of the world's top talent.

Texans love their football...and then some.

Odessa is actually a city of around 100,000 people. The new indoor facility is being paid for 100% by private donations.

4A/5A head coaches in Texas make up to $110.000 or so per year.

that is impressive for such a small town.i was in dallas and seen southlake's facilities, it's crazy! how can they afford to pay these coaches that amount of money and are they teachers there as well? i coach in buffalo NY and we don't have anything like you guys have, i need to move to the football capital of the world-TEXAS

First of all, Buffalo is a hole, along with much of Upstate New York. I am allowed to say this, because I was born in Auburn, NY and grew up in a Syracuse suburb. I'll always be a CNY boy, no matter where I'm living at the time.

Texas as a state is growing, and a big chunk of that is oil revenue.

I remember when I was in High School, Odessa Permian was an even bigger powerhouse than they are now. Friday Night lights is loosely based on the Panthers

Kirk Hinrich's dad coached here for twenty sum years until his son went pro then moved to KC to coach and makes a quarter mill there so I know football coaches can make more.

neo, i went to school(college) in the syracuse area, and central ny is the worst part of the state. auburn is boring as hell too... i was asking for some input about odessa not your opinion on buffalo being a hole.....

The head coaches at large schools in Texas do not teach classes, but most serve as the campus athletic director. Assistant coaches teach some classes, and most also coach another sport.

I made a comment about high school football in my first post, and in the second one, I was replying to your post. I had no intention of hijacking the thread or taking it off topic in any way. What I meant by my post is that some areas in Texas can afford to pay their coaches that much, and that Buffalo often cannot.

Don't you tell me what to post. As long as it is within the rules, AND YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT IS, I will post whatever I damn well please.

Put me on ignore if you don't want to read what I have to say, alright? Feel free to do so (I won't hold it against you, for what it's worth), and not waste both my time and yours. neo, normally, you choose a school not for the area but it's programs, the best in the state, that's why i went....i 'm not going to block you out or anything, most of the things you write a relevant however, i was just sticking up for buffalo.... no worries from my end, i always like a good debate !!!!
