Yes, but you don't see A&M, TTU, Rice, etc. on the same level as UT, you have to look to neighboring LSU and OU for that. Whereas you can lump UF, FSU, and the U all together. Pound for Pound I think you find more depth (quality might be a stretch) coming out of FL.

I guess I'm speaking more in terms of individual player talent. The fact that Texas HS Football players go to all of the powerhouse schools from all over the place is just a testament to their State and its football abilities IMO

Florida brings in the most long term talent in my opinion. Texas and Cali bring some good college players to the game, but I'm pretty sure the numbers will prove that Florida kids seem to go to the pros more often.

And in California you could lump together, USC, UCLA, Cal, Fresno State, Stanford, San Diego State....

I’m surprised that California only has one vote at this point. I thought they were the clear number three behind TX and FL.

Serious about football

I think most small towns (regardless of state) tend to take their sports, and especially football serious.

As for the best producing state, Texas has more to draw on and that's one of the reasons its such a great producer. A lot of the southern states produce well - Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Georgia. Maybe it's the accent.

NJ is about as good as any of the big states per capita in football talent.

Just from population and the ability to train outside nearly year round, California, Texas, and Florida are the tops. I think Florida has slipped a bit, I'd take California #1 right now.

Florida has had the greatest recruits for college football in the country because of the attention focused by the local colleges, that are the most successful. You don't get in the top 10 in college football without having the most top ten players on your team. The other successful teams in the country follow suit and upgrade the talent on their team by looking to Florida.

I'm going to have to stick with Texas. The bigger the pool that you are starting with, the stronger your chances of having more fish!

Well the title of this thread said best state for high school football not anything about talent they produce or individual players. Keeping that in thought i would have to go with texas for all time best high school teams others would be florida, ohio, cali, And Alabama mainly because of Hoover Pratville, Daphne, Homewood, Russellville (the last two are one league below the others in class 5a). If you really wanted to make a case for any state you could so its hard to say which state is the best but i would go with texas first though.

You can't forget Moblie when you are talking about Alabama schools. They tend to put out quite a bit of talent.

I also would like to add that the two guys that are number 1 and 2 for this years heisman are both from Ohio. Troy Smith (Clev Glenville) Brandy Quinn (Dublin) Ted Gin is also from Ohio, and last years Super Bowl winning QB is from there to (Findlay) can't be that bad then HUh.
