The reason I asked is I've spent the last 5 years as a Recruiter and I love dealing with people, but my passion for football and my experience playing in high school makes me want to become a coach. I could do become a PeeWee/Pop Warner type coach I guess, but I think I'd rather go work at a local highschool as a positional coach, learn the business, and work my way up.
If anyone here is or was a coach and can give me some insight into how the internals work and what they usually look for, I'd be very grateful. I think the things that are working against me is I didn't go to college and haven't played since Highschool (tore my rotary cuff and lost my scholarship) so I don't know if a high school will hire a non-degreed person, but who knows... Either way, Thanks ahead of time |

Hey Madd, no I am not a football coach but I do work side by side with the football team at my local highschool. My advice to is to coach at a younger level such as 7th or 8th grade to show upper level coaches your worth and then try to move up the ranks. But if you think you will make alot of money at it think again. I know alot of coaches that hold down normal jobs and then coach on their time off.
As for coaches having to teach or something at the school that is up to the school district or state. |

I have coached for 6 years at the high school level and have been an offensive coordinator for the last two... it is a great sport to coach however, politics play a huge part in landing a gig no matter what state you live in but usually you have to be a teacher for the district however there are exceptions in districts of high need. ( i teach PE)...here in buffalo it is pretty flexiable but politics rule the sports here ! it sucks

this is not an easy job at ANY level. From 1a to big super 5's its still TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL. If you are not sure or sceptical about this on ANY level, from experience, get started in a pop warner program or Jr. High. |
