you don't have to go into education however it helps at the high school level. my suggestion would be if you play college ball, after you finish your undergrad, ask your coach to help you be what is called a "grad assistant". basically, you will lend a hand with the coaching staff and learn the tricks of trade of coaching at the same time gaining valuable experience....i would go into physical education but there are other routes besides that...good luck

i coach pop warner football. ive been doing this for the last 10 years and have been fired for having bad seasons only to be rehired after they got a new guy that had worse records than me. i have to say that coaching 10-12 year olds can be quite rewarding. especially when you see them do exactly what you teach them and the play comes off so perfect.

here is a link to the team i coached this year. we got stopped in the championship game but there were some errors we made that we hope to not make next year. this is a crackback play that is designed to take out aggresive middle linebackers.

Crackback blocking with-in the LOS is illegal in Canada!Best to double team them with a lineman and RB or 2 linemen then move onto the linebackers if the D-lineman gives it up!
