Judge gives students deferred sentence to play

Thoughts on this?

Teens allowed to play before going to jail

I'm from a small football crazy town in Southwestern PA, so much like the one in the news, but I can't imagine our local judge would do something this dumb.

It makes me sick

To think that this judge ranks football more important than seving their sentence. One of the injured boys suffered brain damage and one has already undergone 10 surgeries. I just hope that all the college programs have taken notice and will NOT turn a blind eye!

That's why I thought it was sooo crazy. The prank resulted in serious injuries, not hurt feelings or even property damage. The boys that were injured will never be the same. I wonder what have happened if the roles would have been reversed.

This has been bothering me.

Is there something the state athletic board can do? I know that the school isn't going to do anything. I'm sure they were pressing the judge to let them play. Somebody somewhere has to make some noise about this and not just let it die down.

This is a perfect example of the problem with sports today. Twenty years ago, the coach would have benched them for just taking the deer.
