Pittsburgh Steelers offensive football

anyone interested in talking actual football, for example, what offense is the best to run in high school or college considering the NFL all run the boring versions of the pro -west coast.....examples-double wing, wing-t, wishbone, power i etc......

You need to run the offense that fits the kids the most.

I agree, it all depends on the kids you have.

Personally i like the spread offense best. My local high school runs a spread identical to Gary Crowtons, boy is it high octane.

I am a fan of the Wing-T. It is the offense we ran at my high school. We went to our yearly team camp at Davis H.S. run by the staff of Princeton. It was a good camp and excellent instruction on the offense. I played tight end in the offense for 3 years and tackle my senior year. The Wing-T is a good offense for both running and passing. You just adapt it to what your personnel is. My junior year we had an excellent quarterback and plenty of guys who could catch the ball. I was playing tight end and sometimes we would line up in spread quads, with me out wide. It was great. We were regularly putting up 450-500 yards of offense, mostly through the air. My senior year we had a 1000 yard rushing tailback (in wing-t the tailback is more like a fullback type player) as well as two 600+ yard rushing halfbacks (/wingback) with a very weak passing game and only 24 players on the whole team and we were still mostly competetive.

Typical Wing-T formation (for those who don't know):

SE .............T..G..C..G..T..TE
........................QB............... WB

.................HB....TB

Other variations we used:

SE ................T ..G ..C ..G ..T ..TE
..............WB ..........QB .................WB

.............................TB

SE....................... T.. G.. C ..G ..T ..........................SE
..............FL ..................QB.................... FL

....................................TB

i like the singlewing with a hint of spread involved. for anyone who is not famaliar with it, it is nearly extinct. mostly used in the 50's, it involves unbalanced lines. went to W.Va. clinic last yr. and fell in love with this offense, also a mix of oregon's and urban meyer's.i took a team who went 1-6 to 7-1 and league champs...your wing-t formations look cool though.

What does the base formation of the single wing look like? My junior year we had a beefy O-line and we ran unbalanced some. We called it Heavy end over right/ heavy end over left. We mostly ran our base plays out of it (27/48 Jack).

It looked like this:

..................................TE...G...C...G.. .T...T.....................SE
............................................QB.... .............WB

..................................HB.......TB

If you've got a good blocking tight end it works well. Also a pass play in this formation is almost a trick play. We used a TE pop pass out of this formation with success.

okay, so I looked up the single wing, which there are definitely many variations of. I like it. Perfect for a good running QB. Just make him a running back first and a QB second. Single wing don't need no stinking quarterback! I like it. As a defensive player I'm glad we never had to prepare for an offense like that.
