Newbie Tips?

I have never played fantasy football, and would like to get into a league next time around. What tips would you give to me, a complete newbie to the fantasy football world?

ESPN advertising taught me the following (and ads never lie);

1) Kickers go early, get one before the run on them
2) Don't worry about RB, you can always get on later on
3) Manning retired, both Eli and Payton

Pick up 2 of the best RB's available in rounds 1 and 2. Use a fantasy football publication for the rest.

Same as above poster, draft the best 2 RB's available, though, I chose to take Palmer second and I still picked up Palmer in the 3rd (was an 8 team league). Palmer was the top scorer, in my league anyway, and he looked great Monday night, couldn't pass him up.
After nailing down the RB's and a good starting QB, it's a good idea to go after WR's. Guys like Harrison, Chad Johnson, and T.O. (may not be as valuable this yer, though) may be gone, but Reggie Wayne, TJ Houshmanzedah, Chris Chambers, etc. are all still great pickup. Basically, try to get anyone who's starting for that respective team, but Wayne and Housh will still get you great numbers.
Fill in the positions from there. Don't spook out and follow runs, of kickers for example, those guys pretty well score close to one another and other than maybe Rackers, they all score close to the same amount of points. TE's are valuable, Gates is obviously top, next coming Shockey. Defense is probably good in the mid rounds, too.
Make sure you you have a good bench, for injuries and bye weeks. People tend to forget those and get stuck in a rut. Good luck, I know that's a lot, but that's the strategy I used, and it's paid off for me. I'm sure others with have diferent ideas, though.

Reggie Wayne and Chad Johnson are in line for solid campaigns. RB and QB are essential as you are really only relying on one player. WR rely solely on the QB they have if the QB isn't strong the value of the WR no matter who drops significantly.

Get yourself stud RB, a number one receiver and a top 5 QB then just go down the list from there.

you dont need 2 top 10 WR's to win. you do need RB's like humans need air. take several early, then try to take somebodys backup for your 4th or 5th RB, especially for RB battles or injury prone backs. YOU MUST GET A FANTASY MAGAZINE AND READ IT COVER TO COVER. Make sure you bring paper, pen/pencil, and magazine to the draft and WATCH OUT for having too many people with the same bye week.

I wish you all the best when you start playing. And you can always fire a msg on here for advice before and after the draft.

it would also be really funny if you took tj "whos your mama" and then said "championship" that one gets me every time!!!

Thanks for the tips, guys. Especially the one regarding byes...it seems like something I would overlook at the beginning! Hopefully I'll learn enough to be a competitive participant next year.

One tip on where to play. There are several good free sites. I think it is ridiculous that people pay and play at 149$ places. If the content was worth it then that is one thing, but there are some quality free sites out there.
