How much hardcore analyzation do you do before drafting?
I saw this article at footballguys.com

One system I think does probably help some is FootballGuys Draft Dominator tool. As basically you do all the work of predicting each player if you want on how they will do based on you your own thoughts. Then put in your scoring system and it will tell you who to pick when your turn in the draft comes up based on what teams before or after you have already picked AND really who will give you more value for the pick depending on when their is a big drop in the next few guys in that position.

I never stop. The league moves too fast to simply say you know enough about a guy. There is always some other piece of useful information out there even if it is confirming something you have read. There is nothing better having a rpediction backed up by a couple other sources. I call that locking.

Last time I was in a league I woke up 45 minutes before the draft walked in checked out some websites, picked up a FF magazine that was laying around and made my picks. If I start to get too in depth I suffer from analysis paralysis and question every pick. So basically I usually just go with my gut and don't do much if any pre-draft research.

Yeah, I just use that in addition to on-the-spot consideration of the player. Like what team they play for, what bye week they have (drafted 5 WRs because I had some issues there), and other factors (will Eddie Kennison and Trent Green have enough gas in the tank; will Larry Johnson be a running machine with a new center, a new fullback, and other new guys on the offense, etc.)

pfft, im not giving my secrets to you geeks!!!!
jk i do make my own lists instead of following along with other crappy pre-made lists cause i have a better grasp of where i have my players ranked and can find them quicker when others take an unexpected pick early. as far as reaserch...i, of course, dont have to do any cause its all in the good ole noggin already. ![]() |

I do a bit. Enough to have a solid list, but nothing past that. I honestly think that the popularity of pools and fantasy leagues of all ilks have meant a massive over analysis of players, stats and projections.

I think that there is a point where you can do too much analysis. All the stats and projections in the world are just speculation. You must do enough research so that you will not look like an idiot on draft day. (ie. picking some dude who's out for the season or retired
) But I don't feel the need to overdo it. Leading up to the draft I read the pre-season updates and injury reports and have a general idea of my favorite studs, underrated players, sleepers, etc... and then I just go with my gut feelings. I tend to rate players I like a lot higher than most publications would have them ranked. Actually I find that more research and dilligence is required during the season for making trades and getting those steals off the waiver wire. |

I do quite a bit of research, and print out my personal rankings, so I'm well prepared for the drafts. I also try to keep up on all the injuries, as this seems to get forgotten during draft day. I have noticed that well known players still get taken, even if they have an injury that may sideline them for a while. So when it comes to research, this one is important.....
