I watched some video on a phone at Best Buy, pretty impressive stuff. As far as getting data goes you're right, you could get most of that stuff from your regular web enabled phone. But I thought it was pretty cool to be able to flip on Sports Center whenever you wanted to and see what's happening.

It's actually pretty cool - they push Sportscenter to your phone in 3GP format I guess and it's encoded on the fly. The other stuff is just a "protected" area of their mobile site that I guess feeds off the SIM card ID or something to identify the phone as an ESPN one.
Not sure. I'll have to look into it more if someone would hook me up with one *cough*. |
