Keeper Question

I have the # 3 pick in the draft and have the option of keeping LT in the first round or LaMont Jordan in the 5th round.

Suggestions?

That's tough.

I'd keep LT.

If it were me, I'd keep Jordan and give up the 5th rounder.

With the 3rd you'll get one of LT, Alexander or Johnson and any of them coupled with Jordan will probably be better than LT and whoever you get to go with him in rounds 2,3 or 4.

Look at it this way, LT will surely go in the top 3, where you have him, but Jordan may go 2-3 rounds earlier than what you have to give up for him.

Just my opinion.

He won't get Alexander or Johnson if the other managers decide to keep them though.

True, I didn't think of that. (I've never done a keeper league)

I think I'd still keep Jordan in the 5th though.

I assume each owner can only keep one guy and he could end up with a combination of Jordan and depending on how many teams are in the league possibly a guy like Rudi Johnson. Which is a pretty good tandem.

Plus getting a quality back in the 5th round allows him to get 2 very good receivers and maybe Brady or Hasselbeck in rounds 2,3 and 4.

Again depending on how many teams are in the league his top 5 picks could be something like;

1. Rudi Johnson
2. Torry Holt
3. Marvin Harrison (I've seen mocks with him going in the 3rd)
4. Brady/Hasselbeck
5. Jordan

Well, I guess it really depends on who will the other managers be keeping and who will be available to choose from with those picks... but still, I've never been in a keeper league but if there's on guy I'd wanna keep, it's LaDanian freakin' Tomlinson. I personally still have him above Johnson and Alexander as the best in the league.

The only way I would do this is if you can be certain to have the first pick in the draft, i.e. the guys picking one and two are both declining their first round pick to hold a keeper. In which case you would give up your keeper status on LT only to re-draft him with the third overall pick, if that makes any sense.

Thanks for the responses everyone. The way I am leaning is to keep Jordan and hope to pick one of Edge, Portis (not any more) or get LT back depending on who everyone else keeps. I won't know that until right before the draft.

Yeah I would probably go Jordan in the 5th. Makes more sense. You should be able to get an Edge and Jordan (in 5th), instead of a LT and Dominic Rhodes (5th round choice). Its all what you think, but I'd go with the 2 top 10 RB's personally.
