Ranking RANT

This is my Rant and its over due, I ve taken a back seat and just read threads and never bothered to join but all of the Big 12 Nuthuging needs to stop! and quit slaming the Big 10 there far better and more competitive than the twelve will be. The 12's best team The TEXAS long horns who being ranked 7th is a travesty, its down right wrong....
my reasoning is, Iowa played Ohio State to to 17-38 and had many mistakes that if corrected they could have hung with them.texas was dominated and should only have put up 3 on them.
Then theres Michigan.... they are the #3 team! not #6, USC isnt proven nor is WV or Louisville.
heres my top 20 you can bitch if you wanna but its better than what we got now, SEC has 5 teams better than WV Louisville Texas and USC

#1 Thee Ohio State
#2 Auburn
#3 Michigan
#4 Flordia
#5 LSU
#6 Georgia
#7 Tenn
#8 USC
#9 Notre Dame
#10 Iowa Hawkeyes
#11 WV
#12 Texas
#13 louisville (would be top ten if bush was still rollin)
#14 GT
#15 Oregon
#16 Oklahoma
#17 Cal
#18 Clemson
#19 Va Tech
#20 Nebraska

Here Here! Great post!! I agree HIGHLY with your rankings... especially with AU at #2. I also like that you put USC as #8. I am so sick and tired of having USC pushed up just because they are USC. Hate it!

Michigan does deserve to be #3.

I cannot WAIT to see the Ohio State/Michigan game!!!!

Heh.

I'd like to see your revision of that top 20 after this weekend...Rankiings are based on opinions and like poop-holes everyone has them...Yet...if there are to be rankings...Someone has to fit some teams into the top 20/25 preseason....I go with the adage "It's not how you start but how you finish"...Alot of teams get high preseason rankings from the previous year's finish or just merely name/conference recognition...I'd like to see the whole system go to a playoff system...Eliminate non-conf.'s in the early season and jump right into conference play...'cept the tradition of bowls/payouts and other complications would make it hard to sway the masses...

I agree that teams like USC have to "prove" themselves...Yet since they played in the NC last year...they'll stay up there 'til they lose...I could say the same thing about Georgia...who has yet to "prove" themselves as well(they'll probably lose to Tenn this week)...What team doesn't have to prove themselves...though...in the big picture? Is it fair that a early high ranked team can lose a game towards the beginning of the season then win out and be ranked high vs. the same team winning all then dropping their last game and dropping out of contention? What about the team that starts ranked really low early...going undefeated or dropping one midway...and still getting shafted come BCS time?...Case in point...2001 when Nebraska who didn't even win/or even play the Big 12 Championship game and still got the bid for the NC while Oregon(ranked 2nd in both polls)and Colorado(Big 12 Champs/ who at the time... most had the OPINION they were the best team in the West) were left in a consolation Fiesta Bowl. Nebraska ended up getting thumped by Miami in an extremely boring game.

Yeah, the SEC has some solid teams...but to claim that they contain 5 of the top 7 teams in the nation is a bit of a stretch early in the season or otherwise.

EDIT:When I mentioned the "going undefeated" (up above) I was thinking about Auburn a couple years back.

Could someone please explain to my why Arkansas hasn't gotten a nod? They are undefeated and putting a whoopin on anyone that crosses their path.

Who does one pay to get ranked anyway?

I sure wish Arkansas was ranked!! My AU Tigers got soundly beaten by them yesterday. I am still in shock. I would take it better if at least Arkansas was RANKED. Their freshman quarterback had a lot of poise. I was impressed!

AU just didn't have their head in the game. But, Arkansas played well, also.

I bet they will be ranked this week!

Wow - third time this year that the #2 (Texas, Notre Dame and, now, Auburn) team has fallen. It seems to be the cursed ranking. If there was any justice in this world, USC would fall below West Virginia, Florida and Michigan after two dismal performances in a row Worst case, USC takes the #2 ranking, and becomes the 4th #2 to lose this season against Oregon, Cal or Notre Dame.

Arkensas had 5 votes last week in the AP poll, good for 34th overall. With a quality win over a #2 ranked opponent, and their lone loss coming against a strong USC team, Arkensas could move into the top 25, but just barely. I could see them stealing the #25 spot from Boston College, who had a buy week. Boston College has an identical 4-1 record, one quality win, and a loss against unranked NC State.

BOWLING GREEN ??????? when are these teams that want a claim @ #1 & say they are so good going to play a schedule? if you never play anybody it's hard not to look good. in the top 25 you'll never have more than 4 ranked teams playing another ranked team. why? are they all scared? we have some more jr. colleges in the south besides troy state that you can schedule with. big 10 & big 12 play teams that i didn't know have a football team. just play somebody before you call yourself THEE anything. i'd like to see the outcome of ohio state or so. cal against a real schedule. when i saw their schedule i thought i was looking at a joke page. btw. there means over there. they're means they are.

Let's ignore the fact that they scheduled a home and home with Texas that ended this week as well as scheduling a home and home with USC in 2008 and 2009.

They didn't even plan on playing Bowling Green this year. The team they were going to play (I forget who) didn't accept their bid so they had to schedule BG to have the right number of games.

Let's also ignore the fact that Ohio State has already played 3 or 4 ranked opponents this year with more still to come.

Just because your team is bad doesn't mean you can trash other teams you know nothing about.

I never did completly understand the rankings. They just didn't make a whole lot of sense to me how they came up with rankings.

I think they just average a bunch of peoples lists together (coaches and media people) and thats how the final lists are compiled.

I'm not 100% sure though.
