I need help finding stats/rosters

I've created a sports simulation for football and basketball. I have teams online back to the 1940's currently. The problem I'm having is, I can't find player stats or rosters to fill out the teams. Currently the majority of the teams have generic player stats. The teams are accurately rated based on wins/losses and strength of schedule.

I was hoping someone would have a link or links to team stats prior to 1996. I can access years 1996-2007, I just need time to put all the names in the database. Any help or suggestions is appreciated.

The website will simulate head to head matchups or a tournament feature for 4,8,16,32, and 64 teams. I set up the NCAA basketball tournament and would like to set up a mythical tournament of great football teams with stats.
