Opinion on Clock Rule Changes

What is everbodys opinion on these new clock rule changes? Here are the choices:
  1. I love them as the games were way too long.
  2. I hate them as there will be a lot less exciting 4th quarters with the changes.
  3. Who cares its just the clock it doesn't have any affect on the outcome.
I absolutely HATE them and they just made it a WHOLE lot easier for a team ahead in the 4th to run out the clock. I predict we see a lot less fantastic finishes then in the past.

Why did they mess with a good thing? They are one of the only (if not the only) competitve sports in the country without a real playoff system and they are worried about tinkering with the clock! What a joke the NCAA is and they really have some messed up priorities.

Here are the new rules changes for 2006:
RULES CHANGES
3-2-5
When the ball is free kicked, the game clock will start

3-2-5-e
When Team B is awarded a first down, the game clock will start on the
ready-for-play signal

I'm with you. Why mess with a good thing? It works. They did the same thing in hockey. change up all the rules, confuse the fans, irritate the players -- no one is happy.

Clock run on change of possession. Horrible change.

If you get a punt with less than 5 seconds left... no more hail mary unless you have time out.

Ah, I don't like these at all. I also think 4th quarter will be much less exciting. What was the motivation for changing them to begin with?

They wanted to shorten the length of games or something dumb like that.

Green Bay Packers Clock rules are awful.

The fans are now charged more for tickets, parking and everything else concerning football. Now the NCAA changes the most exciting part of the game. Greed will ruin the game. Did anyone consider cutting out 2 ads and taking a little less money? Did anyone consider the fans or ask our opinion?

good point, I hadn't thought about it like that. If they were so set on shortening games they could have cut 2-3 commercials and achieved the same results but they chose to change the rules, pathetic.

Jacksonville Jaguars

why not cut out a few commercials, and I like the replays but not every one. We're missing about 25 to 35 plays a game.

Major Thumbs Down!!!! Cutting back on number of plays effects individual records, and gives 2nd and 3rd string players less an opportunity to get into the game. Cut back on length of halftime and one or 2 commercial time outs and you can shortent the game without effecting the actual game play

i'm pretty upset about losing 20 plays or so per game...i understand wanting to shorten the game...but that's too far

I'm pretty sure the goal was to increase the number of commercials, not shorten the game time. The Notre Dame/Michigan game featured 80 minutes in TV timeouts, which incensed Lloyd Carr. Unfortunately, money rules the day.

I'm a huge fan of the drawn out 4th quarters in college football, featuring onside kicks. A couple seasons ago, Michigan came back against from 17 points in the 4th quarter, down 27-10 with 8:43 remaining against Michigan State. I'm not sure if you would ever see such an exciting comeback in the NFL, where teams routinely wipe the final two minutes plus out of game by kneeling.

The rules changes haven't completely ruled out the 4th quarter comeback though, as Notre Dame scored 3 touchdowns in the final 8:18 to erase a ninetine point against noneother than Michigan state
