Are there any great teams this season?

LSU is undefeated with victories against VT, South Carolina and Florida.

Cal is undefeated with key wins against Tennessee and Oregon.

Ohio State has key wins against Washington and Purdue.

Boston College has wins against Georgia Tech and UMass.

USF has key wins against Auburn and West Virginia.

Thats all fine and dandy but i really don't see any of these teams as great. LSU is probably the closest imo. I know they have beaten some real quality teams however i think this years squad would get run off the field by there 2006 squad.

Cal has a high octane offense that can put points up in bunches. There Defensive is a concern to me though. They let Arizona back into a game that they should have had handled. Even in their two big wins (Tennessee, Oregon) there were points at which Cal didn't look hungry.

Ohio State has looked real good in beating Washington and Purdue. Outside of those two games they really haven't played anybody. They actually played flat against Akron and Youngstown State. We'll have to wait until they play the like of Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan to see what the Buckeyes are all about.

Boston College has played no one and at times been unimpressive in winning. The best win for this team would be against a 3-3 Georgia Tech team. Their next best victory is a 10 point victory over 4-1 (D1AA) UMass. This team needs to beat a quality opponant before being considered elite imo.

South Florida looked very good at times in their win against Auburn. They had too many missed Field Goals and silly turnovers to be impressive in that game. Turnovers were also a big problem in their win against West Virginia. They struggled to get past Florida Atlantic this weekend. The Defense looks good but this team team needs to work on not being so sloppy on offense and Special teams.

The only great team IMO is LSU. After that, Cal, OSU, Oklahoma (as much as it pains me to admit it), South Florida, Boston College are all really good teams.

I think LSU is a really good team. I'm not so sure about great. Just going back to last year, i see 4 teams that were better including last years LSU's team.

I agree with the opinion on LSU. They are the team to beat this year, but nobody is as dominant as expected. I would also have to add Ohio State as a contender. They have looked very impressive to me. LSU had to go 5 for 5 on fourth down to beat Florida, USC loses to Stanford (no misprint), etc. On a personal note, even KU whipping my Wildcats was a surprise after beating Texas last week.
I hope nobody has bought tickets to the championship game just yet. Many more upsets are going to occur this year.

I agree about LSU as well. They are the team to beat this year, but they are beatable. Florida played them very well. Cal and Ohio are very good teams as well, but I think the nod goes to Cal. They beat Tennessee and a very good Oregon team. Ohio is in a week Big Ten conference and with a loss they are out of the hunt. There only real test thus far was this last weekend, against Purdue, which they looked good. Boston College, sitting at 4, is a good team, but not good enough to keep that spot. They have only had one test, at GA Tech. I wouldn't be suprised to see them slip out of the 4 spot against VA Tech. South Florida has proven itself this year against Auburn and West Virginia but I don't know if it would be able to contend with LSU or Cal. I could be wrong though.

As far as one loss teams go, Oklahoma and USC are the standouts. With Oregon falling close behind. South Carolina has made a nice jump up to the 7 spot, but I think they are a tier below USC, Oklahoma, and Oregon. They have beaten Georgia and Kentucky, but will have some real tests coming up against Tennesee and Florida.

Each week it's becoming more evident to me that there is not a single great team this year. LSU lost today, Cal is struggling with Oregon State, Ohio State and Boston College haven't really played anyone yet.

this should come down to an LSU & USC winner by the end of the year. & with USC's coaching oppossed to LSU's coaching USC has an edge. comparring this years LSU to last years LSU, is really saying.......... we have less Nick Saban players on this years team. now we have Les Miles players & Les Miles coaching........ & less of everything. Michigan please take him. the best idea for southern teams is to get Miles at michigan & his assisstant will be Franchinnie. michigan will never win a game with those 2. but we won't have to deal with them in the south.

Like I said in an earlier entry, " They have to keep an SEC or southern team in the chase". LSU almost lost to Auburn and they move up from 4th to 3rd. If there are two Northern teams playing for the national title they loose the whole southern market. My prediction is they will keep changing the rules on who they can move up just to include the southern market.

WTF? The number 2 team lost. LSU didn't. They moved up 1.
Check out the last 10 NC games
1996- Florida/Florida St- Florida
1997- Michigan/Washington St- Michigan
1998- Tennessee/Florida St- Tennessee
1999- Florida State/Va Tech- Florida St
2000- Oklahoma/Florida St- Oklahoma
2001- Miami/Nebraska- Miami
2002- OSU/Miami- OSU
2003- LSU/Oklahoma- LSU
2004- USC/Oklahoma- USC
2005- Texas/USC- Texas
2006- OSU/Florida- Florida

SEC record in the last 10 national championship games 4-0. I see teams from all the major conferences on this list. LSU did barely beat Auburn. Auburn did beat Florida. Now teams that struggled against lesser competion. Look at OSU barely beat Michigan St. Arizona St barely beat Wash St. Va Tech barely beat ECU and UNC and got thumped by LSU. Kansas barely beat K State and Colorado. USC- Arizona and Washington. Mizz- Illinios. Virginia- in their 7 wins outscored their opponents by an average of 7 points. Yet they all have 2 things in common. 1. They are in the top 15 (BCS). 2. They WON. LSU's 1 loss came against Kentucky who has been ranked as high as 8. Where are you getting the basis for your information? Thin Air?

Dear thin air,
Kentucky was ranked 17th when they beat LSU. LSU only fell to 4th (cheap) and Kentucky moved up to 14th. I am not buying into the BCS Monkey F@#$ rules. By the way the Championship titles you pulled out of thin air are SEC scewed. Michigan shared the 1997 title with Nebraska and LSU shared the 2003 title with USC. So that makes it SEC 3 winners and one shared title. BCS is cowardly manipulating the matchups.

Read my post again on Kentucky's ranking. I said "AS HIGH AS 8" not they were ranked 8 when they beat LSU. Do me a favor and go to ESPN.com pull up week 7 scores, this is when LSU lost, under Scoreboard. Review all the games. Cal lost, USC unimpressive, BC unimpressive, OSU played Kent St not impressed no matter what the score was, Virginia Tech played Duke, South Flordia played Central Florida, Oregon beat up Washington State. There was 1 and only 1 impressive game Oklahoma. If there is any complaint it is LSU at 5 not 4.
Oh yeah my bad for not including the coaches poll on the national championship. You really got me on that one.

Here we go again, remember last year Florida ALMOST lost to S.C., almost lost this almost lost that, but they damn sure did'nt almost lose against Ohio State. And for the record a 13-0 SEC Champion Auburn got left out of the title game a few years back. LSU moved up because Cal lost, who should be ahead of them? and why?
